I have Spring Fever!!

last modified: 10 days ago

We have been having such beautiful weather with temps in the 60s and lower 70s the last couple of weeks. This coming week is to be the same with even warmer temps by end of week. We are enjoying the time outside! Drove up near the mountains yesterday and it was so nice. We have daffodils, forsythia, buds in flowering trees, etc. I know we will have a bit more cold weather but for now Im just soaking it all in 😊

How is it in your area?

High 70s right now, but it is FL so not unusual! We had "colder" weather this winter than the past few winters, but it will change soon and the warm/hot weather will be back. I'm one of the few who prefers the warm/hot weather and have no problem being out biking/walking/kayaking when it is 90F.

Feeling hopeful that spring may actually come to Philadelphia. We have a stretch of unusually warm weather coming up. Today is sunny and brisk with a high of 44f and not windy. March came in more like a lamb than a lion but I have not discounted the return of winter yet.

Went out to pick up branches from my lawn and admire the peeks of bulbs coming up.

We are in ew Orleans right now and the weather has been fantastic— high 60’s to mid 70’s with LOW humidity. Everybody here keeps talking about the humidity with awe and wonder. My hair is so grateful!

Warm and sunny here in SoCal...perfect spring weather as we often have foggy, cold weather in spring. I just hope this doesn't presage a hot summer.

Beautiful and sunny 60’s here in the Shenandoah valley. Tomorrow we will have snow flurries with sleet/ icy rain Tuesday. Then 72 Thursday and 75 Friday! crazy

. I have gotten a ton of stuff done in the flower beds. Tons of Daffodils budding but not open yet, snowdrops and crocus are in bloom . Helebores are just starting. I have 2 varieties and they are spreading like crazy.

. The screened porch is all clean .

A friend came and we dug up some of my Northwind grasses for her class on propagation for the new Master Gardeners .

Took a ton of cardboard to recycling.

. I washed all the first floor doors and windows inside and out ( windows tilt in) and 4 sets of interior French Doors this morning also. I’m done for now!c

It will be a few more weeks before Chicagoland shows any signs of spring, other than rain and later sunsets. The sun is out at the moment, so I'm heading outside for a long walk soon, no matter how chilly it is.

It's been spring-like weather here too! I love my winters and feel like I got shortchanged this year!

Mid 70s. We’re at the lake and have gotten lots of spring cleaning projects done. It was nice enough to tackle power washing the garage (DH) and the paddle boards and kayaks (me). We also explored a couple of nearby small towns. Loving this spring-like weather!

I'm working on my small apartment patio which is going to be beautiful later this spring. Planting in pots and sprouting seeds. Definitely joyous spring fever!

It’s been in the 70s to high 80s here, warmer than usual. We had to mow our yard yesterday, and I put out all the potted plants I was overwintering in the garage.

We did buy some shrubs at our favorite nursery today, a place I love to walk around. :)

Saw some beautiful bulbs popping up and blooming forsythia bushes in various yards on the way home.

Some of my daffodils are out, one Camelia is blooming even though I was sure the buds all got nipped when we went to -11 a few weeks ago. Close to 70 today, later in the week will be mid 70s and honestly I wish it would hold off. I far prefer long drawn out spring with temps in the 50s and low 60s.

Several of my outdoor orphan orchids have flower stalks with buds, so I should have lots of flowers in a few weeks. These are store bought orchids that I used inside and once the flowers died off, I just place them outside on a plant stand in my lanai and try to remember to water once a week. A few of the orchid plants don't make it, but some love it out there and keep flowering again and again.

We are expecting a "wintry mix" today but by the end of the week we'll have temps near 80. This is so very, very hard on plants--bulb blooms burn up from the heat in a day or so. Shrubs and trees begin to bloom and then are slammed with a hard frost. It's just dreadful. Our Appalachian springs have always been up and down, but climate change has made the swings start much earlier and with the ups higher and the lows lower.

I've been a gardener for some 60 years--and in the last 8 years or so it's become really, really difficult.

I agree @laceyvail 6A, WV it used to be much more predictable . We had the most and coldest winter days this year. It was crazy day after day. Wintry mix here too today and tomorrow then 70’s by the end of the week.

I’m wondering what will or won’t return in the beds. 🙏

When I moved to this county in southeastern WV over 50 years ago, we were a straight zone 5A. The coldest temp I've ever experienced was here in the early 80s when Christmas Eve it was 30 below, not wind chill. Now we are in many ways almost zone 7, but with crazy temp swings that make that zone designation unreliable for plants. The first bulbs, early crocus and Iris reticulata, are just coming into bloom, but with temps in the mid 70s to low 80s in March, all the bulbs shoot out of the ground thinking they've missed their cue--and burn up in a day, all the bulbs at once. Trees and shrubs bud out and get slammed. Spring is often now disappointment after disappointment.

New insect pests make growing vegetables increasingly difficult as well, requiring more and more crops to be protected from pests with row covers. Even alliums--onions, garlic--must now be protected from the allium leaf borer which destroys the bulb.

Thats sad laceyvail ☹️. We are overcast today and hopefully getting some showers the next few days. we need rain!

Speaking of camellia blooms, the one bush that reliably blooms in December - red flowers against green leaves for a seasonal appropriate display - didn’t bloom until February this year. The other two bushes, one bloomed and the other coming into bloom, followed their usual schedule. Maybe the early rains in November flummoxed the usual Christmas bloomer.

Central NJ - it had warmed up to the 50s but today is cold again. Currently 34 degrees. I am so over it. The snow is starting to melt the last couple of days but still covering everything. Can't get out on my deck yet.

Early next week is supposed to be in the low 70s. I CANNOT WAIT.

Here in New England temps are predicted in the mid-teens overnight with snow and then freezing rain tomorrow evening. Snow is still fairly deep on the ground with giant snowbanks. Sigh.

In the teens over night but supposed to be nearly 70 this weekend in NYC!

I do feel badly for all of the bulbs whose heads will pop up this week only to be obliterated by the next frost.

Out in the Palm Springs area this week. It has been in the high 80's and 90's, warmer than typical this time of year. DH loves it, he is enjoying the pool everyday. I prefer it to be a little bit cooler, better for walking and reading outside. Thankfully, still cool in the morning and evenings.

Jill302, better than the 115F temps the first time we visited Palm Springs! Never went in the summer again, LOL.

It has been 15-20 degrees above normal here for about three weeks. This does not bode well for the summer months.

Kendrah, frost won't hurt bulbs. But temps in the 80s will fry the blooms in one day.

Jana, I sure hope it’s not a sign of things to come. I look forward to the cold every year, a break after our brutal summer (and usually fall) temps. I got very little of that this winter.

The plants I overwintered in the garage never went dormant. Even my mandevillas kept putting out new growth, which has never happened before.

Back from vaca, in NYC for a few days. Yesterday was brutal but next week is looking up! Then we go to San Antonio late March.
