What is up with bowl fillers? i have a beautiful 16 inch low bowl that is 5 inches deep. i have 3 travertine spheres 3 1/2, 4 and 5 inches

i think its not that interesting

empty or filled? pros and cons
updat- i did add the substrate awuarium filler as a riser and that has improved the look while keeping it minimal. ill exper with a brighter subtke shhen substrate next for more contrast.

    sometimes bowls can be empty

3 spheres sounds like too few.

I often like wooden beads in a low profile bowl like that

Can you add a photo taken from further back to show the entire console?

Perhaps the bowl would look better on a lower shelf (unfilled) than on the top of the console (filled or unfilled).

Try filling the bowl, moving the bowl, etc. Take photos of each change and post for feedback.

@la_la Girl - You've gotta watch Caroline Winkler's rant about wood bead decor. I think it is very funny, and starts at 7:00 minutes.

The bowl itself is very attractive. No need to fill it with doo-dads.

    Thanks

It depends upon what else is going on the console.

Gotta agree about the wooden beads. WHY?? Did a non christian or Protestant notice a rosary at a bffs and thought DECOR??? I don't get it. They rank up there with wall words IMHO. Weather a bowl 'needs' something in it or not--depends on the bowl and where it is sitting, I would say. If a larger bowl were down in a coffee table-I would find something to feature in it. If it were on a console in the front entry--well it would soon be used for mail or keys... The bowls Bev showed would never call for anything to be in them. Yours stands alone I would say.

Some bowls can stand alone but IMO that one needs something, maybe just the sheres but I need to see them . I hate wood beads in decor all of thme and for sure the ones strung to make a light fixture but to each his own. Show the sheres please It is also good to show the space where this goes

lol I knew the beads would get some energy 😅

I would probably do a succulent arrangement, real or faux, depending on your ability to keep plants alive.

That is really a beautiful bowl! I would fill that with mix of seasonal, forest, see or any other decoration. You can find an nice inspiration on Pinterest too, with nano light chain or even candles in the glass eg

I actually have real marble beads that were a gift from a Greek friend way back in college, so they definitely are meaningful to me! This was a good reminder that I need to find the box they are in, as the string broke a few years back and I never got around to fixing them. I need to find a thick, but silky "string" to match the original.

It looks empty, I'd put the spheres in. That said, if the picture was taken from a different angle, the emptiness might not be as noticeable, so assess it as you're walking past or in the room.

appreciate the candor and suggestions . im going to try the travertine spheres i ordered when they arrive. and to balance with the rest of the room , heading minimal . can alwa adjust. im not antibead , i think use what u like but it isnt a fit for this room. great and positive discussion

I hope you don't have cats! With sand it might be seen as an artsy litter-box!

Alternate leaving it empty and at times when there is a seasonal change, put a lovely moribana arrangement in it now and then. It doesn't take a lot of vegetation, just a respect for the materials of the season.

I deleted my original comments when I realized how large the bowl is. I have large bowels in three different rooms and leave empty (other than over the holidays), so they can be appreciated. They are though part of a vignette, which enhances them. Try bringing home items for the bowl itself, but also accessories for a vignette and you’ll be better able to decide.

As others have noted, certain bowls can be left empty but your bowl will need something. How about candles?
