coffee table help

last month

Need some help figuring out one large coffee table or several smaller coffee tables as a grouping for the furniture layout on this rug. Ignore all the misc stuff off to the side not on the rug :) The couch is 82” long. Accounting for walking room around the furniture, I have 30”-42” of width and up to 60” length to work with for table size in the middle of the rug. One large table? Nesting tables? Round vs rectangular or square? Planning to fill in between the cream barrel chair and couch with ottoman or poufs but if you have thoughts on that, would love to hear that too. Thanks for the help and ideas!

First get the furnishings layout in the room correct. Center the sofa on the windows directly across from the fireplace.

Consider side tables rather than a coffee table. That's what I have, and I find it more convenient for holding beverages, and easier for walking around, as well. I had a coffee table for years, and while it served me well at the time, I don't miss it at all.

Are you able to move the miscellaneous stuff out of the room? That might help you to see more clearly what you're really working with.

My honest take: a single table with some visual weight — think a stone top or something to contrast the lighter woods — would ground your seating group better than a grouping of smaller tables for that scale of sofa. Given you have several furniture pieces in there, I think multiple pieces will add clutter. For the ottoman fill-in near the barrel chair, a pouf or a small leather cube ottoman plays nicely with the round form of the chair. Something that might save you a lot of back-and-forth returns, using Madespace to test table or ottoman ideas and then shop them might be really helpful.

First, center the rug, using the front window and fireplace as the middle point.

Center the sofa on the front window. Bring the white swivels into the mix, and add the coffee table, floor lamps and end tables. All will size to the window.

Paint the fireplace white, art over mantel, leather chairs on either side of fireplace.

Do this for window treatments, both on front window and the two side high windows. Hang rods at the same height, Pottery Barn. What you have now is just too heavy and $ looking.

Then for side wall, now with draperies, complete that wall. Add large console and art. Plant is lovely in the mix, but add a low scale lamp, if there is a wall plug there.

The table against the stair wall? Gone, gone, gone.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately the fireplace and large windows are not lined up. The fireplace is the center of the room, so I've used the fireplace center for arranging the rug and all of the furnishings. The couch will be off-center of the windows, so if you have solutions for the right side of the couch feel free to share as well. I was thinking plant, floor lamp, etc to offset the asymmetrical nature of that wall.
