So Irresistible did well last year and was its loveliest on rebloom.

Star Lord is my favorite purple, but it has been slow to increase. It lost a fan its first year here, but I see yesterday that it has added two over this horrible winter.

Such a Blaze is doing well here and had terrific rebloom.

Summer Kate was at its registered height despite being planted at the end of October. It bloomed for a long time last season.

So many S's. Thank goodness we don't have them all lumped together.

I am late, as this week I tried to get some work done before the cold and constantly windy weather. Mother Nature, having given us a lousy winter, is cackling as spring is messed up too. The stupid magnolias were saying in near-80-degree weather, "It's spring; wheee, we have to open." Monday's forecast has a low in the teens, which will be disastrous. But first Sunday with another windy near-record high to scorch and blast spring blooms.

Sunny Intervals looks interesting. Davisson has hybridized with some Goldners.

Snows Lake Crazies is a strong color. I wonder how well such a ruffled flower opens in cooler mornings.

So Beautiful to Me is a color I like, though Klehm's stuff is usually not vigorous here. Solomon's Robes, another nice color--a Talbott evergreen. Skater seems to do very well for Kate. Sweet Suzanne took a nice pic.

Special Candy had a very good year after a tepid one the preceding one.

Southern Shiner looks great before mid-day heat.

Something Wonderful. This Salter is reliable.

Spunky Girls was always like this, but the past year had a lot of splotchiness.

Emmerich's Song of Deliverance is an interesting shade of yellow.

Stargirl has been modestly budded.

Star Lord I agree is nicer than Mary's Baby. It is an evergreen.

Do I need to apologize for liking Stamile's Soft Summer Night?

Sputnik shows off early in the season, with lots of buds and sturdy scapes.

Spacecoast Red Dazzler has yet to show that it is vigorous, but the color is intense.

Song of the Sea is a nice Emmerich.

Spinal Tap, a Hanson.

Stone Palace Swagger is a color I like. I don't know what to think of the SP's in general. Seems to me that too many are introduced. Swagger would benefit from a few more inches.

Soft Play also could stand a few more inches, but is above the foliage, with great substance. Hanson.

Emmerich's Sons of Thunder has good height.

Still the One is always a welcome sight early in the garden. Sturdy.

Sultry Girls had an outstanding year.

Sword of Justice is a midseason Emmerich.

Hanson's Strawberry Alarm Clock is fairly short.

Soli Deo Gloria was clean and intense later in the season. I have grown weary, though, waiting for it to multiply. Finally a good clump.

Stop the Car was taken in sun too bright (a common issue in recent seasons).

Storm Surge is a Hanson. Large.

Storm Shelter is an Emmerich. Height is okay, but not as tall as it supposedly grows farther north with snow cover.

Spirit Fox looked good last season. Maryl did not like it.

mantis: Thanks for the post. Great to have commentary along with the photos. I do like Storm Surge and will go and look it up. All my daylilies have come up but we got hit with big drop in temps so no outside work for me today. I was concerned about the new ones I planted in the fall but they all seem to have done okay so far. Weeds never seem to take a break and just keep on giving.

Julia, I too don't notice many problems. A little heaving with a few, but that is usually easily corrected. Fall is a good time to plant here. In general, plants look good. We did have (lots of) snow cover during part of the protracted period in which temps did not rise above freezing for over two weeks. I wish more plants had added fans. As for hardiness, people often think of problematic evergreens as just succumbing to winter (which sometimes they do), but more typically, they do okay for a few years and then enter a period of decline, or they have short scapes and low bud counts.

The weeds this year seem to have very fibrous roots. I know about typical "March winds," but recently it's been ridiculous. People with chronic conditions know what March winds bring. Just as bad is the fluctuating temperature. Sunday is supposed to bring near-record high temps, with lots of sun (and wind). So flowers will gleefully open, only to be blasted by hard freezes in the teens early next week.

Stripe the Town I hope is a vigorous plant, because I do like the flower. Derrow

Mantis, quite a few that I really like!! I too like your commentary on the plants/flowers.

Star Lord, Sultry Girls, Soli Deo Gloria and Spunky Girls are great purples! Soft Play is a nice lavender. Sputnik sure has a lot of buds!

Stripe the Town is a vigorous grower for me. I had a double fan that I grew for the club and it increased from 2 fans to 7 fans in two years.
