Out with the grey

last month

Please help me pick a new paint color for my mom to match these new floors they had to get in a unexpected emergency to accommodate my dad in a wheelchair. I know it all looks kinda bad now with too many colors. Im trying to pick a neutral to tone it all down. The gold tile look had to stay.

SW Alabaster would look nice with the new flooring.

My mom doesn't want off white, is there something a bit darker, a beige out of the flooring color?

SW Kiliim Beige is one of my favorites. I recently had a large gray LR/DR painted with the Killiim Beige, and it adds so much warmth.

I don't love all these colors but her beige choices are nice. Definitely test samples in your space. https://jennakateathome.com/paint-colors-that-go-with-light-wood-floors/

You'll have to sample a few colors to get the right one. You can order the larger stick on Samplize.com samples. Look at:

    BM Winds Breath

    BM Cedar Key

BM Grant Beige (more of a khaki color that goes well with wood tones)

SW Kilim Beige was very popular circa 2000. I know because I painted some rooms in that color in 2003! I think those colors are making a comeback!

Samplize has bundles that generally have a nice variety of colors to get you off to a good start. The light beige bundle has 8 of the most popular light beige colors. Get the bundle and see what looks best with your flooring and furniture.

Or is the current paint colors ok ans maybe its the railing throwing it all off, I'm lost...

The current color is too cool with the warmth of the flooring. Too blue gray.

I pulled some of the suggested colors and some of the popular colors to show you what I would be looking for.

(Computers are not the best way to show colors - you have to test in your space with your lighting)

I think Kilim Beige is too strong and a bit too orange with the flooring

    I love Natural Linen

Cedar Key and Accessible Beige may pull in a bit of the grayer tones and look good

The next 4 are too green beige - they feel like they are fighting with the floor color.

Paris Rain and October Mist are actual green colors that would be beautiful with the flooring and green is mother natures neutral. It can be used in larger spaces as a neutral and would be pretty, if it is to your mother's taste.

None of these will look white on the walls.

Jennifer Hogan thankyou, that was very helpful. I agree Kilim Beige is too strong. I love Natural Linen too. The greens are out at blue is her accent color, behind the picture is all Navy blue which we wont have time to change. The kitchen might have to stay grey for now too but works with the linoleum... my only concern going this route is it might not match kitchen but its not really too connected. An off white would probly safe the day in that aspect. If we go that route (my mom isnt a fan because it was all off white when they built the house) do you have suggestions that would marry it all together yet match the grey in the kitchen from a distance just to so we dont have to redo the whole darn house, in the end this all started because of a sudden health issue... Thanks everyone

You'll need to test, but I like SW Natural Linen, SW Softer Tan, SW Malabar.

Now im wondering what color to paint the railing, it looks terrible now too lol.

Note: I didnt pick this flooring, the other siblings did in a hurry from Costco 🤦‍♀️

It looks terrible now because of the gray. It may look fine once you have the paint color fixed. The chair rail matches the stair railing and the stair railing looks fine with the flooring. Darker, richer, giving nice contrast. Beige and blue look pretty together and it is a great accent with beige.

Don't forget - this is a computer rendition - need to test the color in the space. If it is close, but not exactly right we can try some other similar colors Like rz2znp suggested.

Can we see some pictures of the kitchen. There are ways to transition from one space to another, but without visuals it is hard to know what colors we are working with. Blue may be the savior here as it works with gray and beige and can be the link between the two rooms.

My niece picked a beige and used a lot of blues in her decor because her husband has red green color blindness. Finding a color scheme that looked good to both of them was kind of challenging.

When mixing cool and warm colors one of the tricks is to have the cool colors darker than the warm colors.

I like this room, but the shiplap is only slightly darker than the beige walls - I think I would like it better if it was one more shade darker, but it works because of the carpet and the pillow.

I know - no carpet allowed with the wheelchair, but we should be able to bring some wood and wicker elements into the kitchen (cutting boards, bread or fruit basket, a vase with flowers . . . ) to tie to the beige and then use the blue elements in art, decor and accessories to tie both rooms together.
