Better lighting, and a bit of color in accessories would go a long way towards making your kitchen brighter. Your counters look like granite. I wouldnt be changing them either. The kitchen is dull, because, the lighting is not good, nor is it interesting to look at because, its all just a bit of a monotone. Add some color, like new barstool cushions, a curtain or valance, a colorful rug in front of your sink. Some colorful things on your counters. If you have some wall space in there (cant tell from the view in the picture), add some colorful art. Once the lighting has been improved, it will all look good without painting, anything. Cabinets would be the last thing, I would paint anyway. They are very nice just the way they are.

Get rid of that monstrosity of a vent fan. Move the cooktop off the island.

It’s the backsplash that needs changing. It’s dark, and does not go well with the countertop. Quartz will be a major downgrade from your granite tops.

Keep the cabinets as they are. The wood is beautiful and compliments the gorgeous cherry floors.

An updated lighting plan will do wonders for this kitchen.

@eam44 I am not planning on changing the floors as you can see in these pics, i am not sure what lighting i want either

I like the cabs - if it were me, I’d change out the backsplash and get less formal counter chairs - something with rattan or some texture, Not sure what the granite looks like and it’s hard to tell the wall color…
