I too am in favor of mostly recessed lighting. However, you want to be sure that your lighting near the vanity mirror illuminates your face well and doesn't create shadows. If you can achieve that with recessed lights, kudos. Sconces or suble vanity lights are also a nice option.

I agree that recessed lighting or wafer lighting is appropriate in bathrooms in certain locations. I like two in each shower, for example. Another source of ceiling light can be an air vent with a light, so consider that as you design your lighting schemes for each bathroom. At the vanity, pendants or wall sconces with a frosted shade are still preferable because they provide the vertical, shadow‑free face lighting overhead fixtures can’t. But a down‑light (vent or wafer) placed slightly behind you as you stand at the vanity is important for hair and for balancing the overall lighting hierarchy.

Can anyone share a photo of what the recessed lights look like installed? Maybe a dumb question, but do they not require internal wiring? I just wanna make sure everything is wired for all possibilities if we decide, we need more lighting near the vanities.

I also read on Housz that lighted mirrors are passe so haven't been considering that option.

We have canless recessed lights as well as over the mirror lights.
