opinions needed on shower tile job

Hi everyone, i am in the thick of having my bathroom renovated and am greatly unsatisfied with the shower tile job. the contractor says the install is correct, but i disagree. am i wrong? please give your opinion and what you’d do. he said he is happy to do something else i’d prefer but depending on the extent, we may need to discuss additional labor and material costs. i did halt any further progression on the shower (aka grouting and finishing the niche) and talking to the contractor in person today. Thank you for any and all feedback!

No, these are the latest pictures as i told the contractor on Sunday that i didn’t want anything further done in the shower until him and i talked in person, which will be today. He was out of town for the holiday and today will be his first day back since this tiling job was done on Saturday.

Are you meaning they should have put redgard on the shower curb, which i assume is the raw cement board?

They did redgard everything else, but you do make a good point.

Should have had a pan liner that goes up and over the curb, incorporating the curb and entire of the shower, also running up the walls. The floor tile should have been installed first with the wall tile stopping approx. 1/2" shy of the floor tile.. Did they tape all the joints and apply thinset over the tape? Having the visual part look awful just makes me afraid for what is underneath..........................................

This was the shower before any tile went up

OK, looks like he taped and spackled the joints with thinset which is a good thing. The floor and curb still concerns me however. That and the sloppy tile work.

Is there any way to tell if there’s a shower pan underneath that material or do i have to rely on his word?

Pictures before cement poured for the base?

Screws through the top of the curb and into the liner is an almost immediate future leak and rot.

Thank you for pointing that out. I’ll be sure to mention that today when we meet.

" Screws through the top of the curb and into the liner "

    Assuming there is a liner...................

the cement board edges and then also questioned him when we met. The head worker had pictures of steps along the way so i did feel better that there was proof of it actually being there aside from me taking my flashlight and shining it between the ever so tiny spacing i could visualize it. I also questioned the contractor about where the liner covered. He assured me that it went up the shower walls such and such inches, covered the shower floor, went up and over the curb and stopped where the curb meet the tile flooring outside the shower. I then asked if putting screws through the cement board into/through the liner compromised the integrity and could ultimately cause leakage and rot. He assured me this met standards, blah blah. I feel like i asked appropriate questions regarding that.

He is going to fix the right shower wall tile so I’m happy with that.

Any other feedback from anything I’ve said? I greatly appreciate all of the comments, questions, and advice so far! I enjoy being educated along the way, although wish i would’ve known more upfront.

Please disregard that first incomplete sentence.

He's incorrect. Water issues waiting to happen. Long after his warranty and could be 10 years down the road, but ceramic or porcelain tile is impervious to water, grout is not and water passes thru. At the very least the top of the curb should be one piece of stone or a solid surface product.

100% against TCNA standards. Which I bet he has no knowledge of.

That tile in the corner looks horrible and I would be very unhappy with it.

It's the lack of math gone terribly wrong. Plan Plan Plan

I'm so sorry for you. But it needs to be redone or your NEVER gonna enjoy a minute of shower time in there
