With a surface-mounted medicine cabinet, I would solve the clearance geometry before choosing the light. Measure how far the cabinet projects from the wall and the position of the doors when fully open, then make sure the fixture extends far enough that the cabinet does not block the light or hit the shade. An 8-inch projection may work, but the actual cabinet depth and door swing matter more than a rule of thumb.

Side sconces can give better face lighting if there is enough width, because they reduce the shadows created by a single light above. If space is tight, an integrated-light cabinet is a clean option, but check the published lumen output, CRI, color temperature, dimming method, damp-location suitability, and whether the driver can be serviced. A lighted cabinet is not automatically bright enough to be the room's only light. Have the electrician confirm the final wiring and local wet-area requirements before the wall is closed.
