I agree, Kay. Driest spring in quite some time. Plants look good but that can be deceiving when it comes to scapes and blooms. Looking forward to your first blooms!!

Thank you, Kate. It is so dry and that last couple of day freeze in ;late February/early March...they were already all leafed out and it hit hard. At least no late march/early April freeze this year Even Bullfrog Kisses is putting up scapes already. It is crazy.

We’ve already watered the daylily garden twice this year. Typically, it’s June before we start having to water. This doesn’t bode well for what’s ahead.

Kay, we had an adnormally cold winter. Our low temperatures were not too bad, but it was consistently below freezing for quite awhile. We have gone from cold to abnormally warm. It is predicted to be 80 today.

kay - Sorry to see you and Kate are in drought. We had record-breaking rain here in March, but most of the April rain has bypassed my part of Indianapolis. Looking forward to seeing your blooms start. I won't have any daylilies blooming until June.

It is pretty dry here too. In July the weather pattern is to become El Nino, which for us means rainy and cooler. May be too late by then. I am thinking of buying an outdoor sump pump that can pump from the creek and keep the daylilies, raspberries and garden nice and wet.

Purple Irises are blooming already, way ahead of schedule.

Julia 75% of our state is in drought and both the fall rains and the spring rains missed us almost completely. We may get a little bit of rain Sunday, but not until then.

Nancy, I am jealous since we will have so many bugs since winter was too mild here. I wish we had had some chill, but weather is weather and what you get you have to live with.

Brad, El Nina sounds good. WE tend to have more cold and rain with them but you are right, it will be late.

Hot, dry, and windy here. An awful spring in which flowers burn up and are battered by the wind. We had decent rain in March, but only .3 inch so far in April. Mother Nature debits, even when she provides excess several weeks earlier. Daylilies are leafy and robust. I remember a bloom season several years ago when there was an early spring and leaves were huge. Bud count was low; the season was terrible. Leaves are not a measure of later floriferousness. Nearly everything this spring is having a bad year, with a few exceptions. Roses were killed to the ground after a winter with over two weeks in which temp did not rise above freezing. Lilacs were smallish. Magnolias frozen. Woody peonies aborted buds after a very warm spell in early March (that the golfers celebrated) was followed by a very hard freeze.

The projected Super El Nino in this region would mean above normal temps (and likely dry). We hope that projections are wrong.

Mantis, I am afraid this season will be disappointing. We have had little rain for six month. We are currently in extreme drought. The plants are not showing it but I suspect the blooms will.

There was no spring rose flush and the clematis bloom so far is skimpy to say the least,

Our winter was entirely too warm. We had only a few colder snaps and a few freezes qwhich is not a good thing.
