The top photo looks fine. If you need to add shade cloth, it should be pretty easy, too.

Looks great...two fit the cooncrete slab perfectly. Now, time for climbers. I looked up which ones will make it in high heat.

Tangerine Beauty Crossvine. Coral Honeysuckle, Mexican Flame Vine are fast growing for shade and nectar, and do well in hot Texas sun. Let them climb all over the top, as well.

In concept it works, but how are you going to handle the gap between, the sides aren't a super big issue but across the top the sun will shine in and somenone going to be hit directly by it, plus if you intended to use it during rain it will be uncomfortable.

I was tempted to do that in my new yard too but realized that the dining area almost always used at night so I just did the one for the seating area since the back faces east .
