I live in NYC where lots of companies will build temporary walls to subdivide larger rooms into smaller ones. Perhaps you have a service like that in your city. It could really be worth it to do this if you will get a good 8 years out of it.

Otherwise, you can use strategic furniture placement and hang a tension curtain between the two sides.

Get your kids involved with you in thinking about it so they feel they have some buy-in and say over the situation and are more likely to be pleased with the outcome.

I grew up in a 3 bedroom home in a family with 6 kids - 3 girls, 3 boys. We had the girls room and the boys room. I didn't have a room of my own until I became a resident assistant at college - tried for the job because one of the benefits was a room of your own.

For 63 years my two sisters and I were best friends. We lost my oldest sister, but my middle sister and I still talk almost every day and see each other several times a week. I have other friends, but no other relationship this close and this lasting.

My three brothers are also exceptionally close. They hang out, go fishing, belong to the bass club, watch football games and basketball games together.

It may be a good thing that they have the opportunity to share a room.
