My countertops are MSI ivoriTaj and the cabinets are 75% tint of aesthetic white.

I would not choose white tile if there is a tiny bit of another tone in that counter use it for tile . Whites are hard to get matching and if off are really bad.

Why do you want a larger tile? If the color works to your counter; and your cabinets are set at the standard 18" high, you are looking at about 6 rows of tiles.

These tiles are sold under several brand names and have been used by thousands on these forums for the last 7 years. They can look nice when paired with the right cabinet colors and counters, but do you want your 2026 kitchen to look like the 2019+ trend?

I even got a box of them to try out when looking for my kitchen backsplash in 2022. Decided they were too plain and too shiny/reflective for the look I wanted in my kitchen. I ended up going with a honed marble mosaic.

I would visit local independent tile stores to look for tiles that are more unique and less overused.

There are so many options for beautiful tiles, so I hope you're enjoying the search! (I know it can feel overwhelming, but take your time.) Since your cabinets and counters are in, you might find it helpful to take some pictures of your kitchen (straight on for each wall, as much as possible) and upload those to a tile site that has a visualizer. Then you can get a rough idea of how different colors and shapes might look in your space. Nothing will take the place of ordering samples and viewing them in your own space and light, but it might help you narrow down.

You could search on "zellige" for irregular edge tiles. There are also irregular edge tiles on sites that sell handmade or unique tile (Cle, Fireclay, Zia...) and as chispa said you'll find more unique items at local independent stores.

I'd also encourage you to consider other shapes and colors, especially since you have white cabinets and a near miss can look off when trying to match whites. The image below is your slab with tiles in a bunch of different shapes and colors superimposed. You might not like any of these, but then again every "no" gets you closer to a "yes" so maybe it will help.

Thank you so much. I’m not afraid of color, but I don’t want to do color in my backsplash. I prefer to use color in my decor.
I don’t plan on doing this again any time soon, so I want to be able to keep a neutral palette as my and change my color in my walls and other decorating as my likes change as well as trends (even though I am not driven by trends)
The cabinets are Sherwin Williams aesthetic white. It’s definitely a very soft greige white, the countertop also has soft greige, caramel veins and white. My wood red oak floors are in a provincial stain. My trim is Sherwin-Williams pure white, and does contrast to my cabinets.
I like a “Nancy Myers” aesthetic so I’m leaning toward a handmade appearing tile.
I’m just not sure of what size tile to use and if there’s any ‘rule of thumb’ for size of tile for a backsplash.

It really would be helpful if you posted pictures of the space. I looked at your counter choice - very nice - it reads quite warm coloured on my monitor - I'm wondering if the tile you've chosen is the right tone with the counter. Have you purchased some sample tiles and are you happy with the way the colours work together?

In terms of size, 3X8 is a good size for backsplash tile. A classic subway tile is 3 X 6 so this one you've chosen is already a slightly larger version.

This type of tile has been popular for a few years now - as others above have commented.

Because it is so popular it is quite easy to find variations on the size and shape.

Here are a few options that you might consider

This is the Bedrosians Marin tile - this comes in 2.5 X 10.

This is Zellige tile - comes in different sizes but the square stacked is very classic if you want to get away from the subway style. It also comes in a subway 2 X 6 and other options as well.

This is also Zellige - but in a trapezoid shape. This is a little different without being a showboat.

This picture didn't come out well - but this tile is 3 X 12 and comes in several different colourways. Nearly every tile manufacturer has a version of what you've shown - so if you're looking for a different size or shape you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it.

Ideally you get samples, put them up in your space with your lighting, snap a photo and post here in the comments.

Please post a pic of your space. We don't want to hunt around on line looking up the samples of your cabinet and countertop. :)

Agreed for a Nancy Meyers look you want to go with a white splash. I'd get flat rather than undulated tiles. A flat white subway tile is so classic. Why not just do that?
