Exterior paint colors

last month

I am looking for an exterior trim and center/cedar section paint color that is a warm grey leaning green, keeping the stucco as is. So far I am considering intellectual grey, rockport grey, sandy hook grey and copley grey (most green and dark). The existing paint isnt too far off but i dont know what it is. i dont feel i can go too outside the box considering it is an odd transitional tudor-style house (wish i could!) but welcome your input or suggestions for other paint to consider. House faces northeast. thanks :)

I am wondering why the gray to green color choice?

Why not paint all the trim(s) and siding a creamy off white like the mortar color in your bricks?

For a real change, go deep, dark, rich with SW Polished Mahogany to highlight the brickwork.

Thanks Lyn for your ideas! i have a personal love for organic greens on a house and we have lots of mature trees. Though on our house it just may not look right. But if going warm grey, best to lean green than taupe imo. The brick is more a salmon/orange/tan mix vs traditional red (hard to see in pic).

Nice! What LRV range would that be for grey trim?

You bring up a good point that the center and trim need not be the same color. good idea, thanks

I'd match the whole thing to the stucco, except for the trim. I suspect your ability to stain it a wood color is not going to be good. You already have the brick, the stucco, and the trim. I would not add another color on a major design element.

I would go with light warm greige such as Accessible Beige SW. I tried taupe green, it does not look good.

    So

Great pics, thanks! I wonder what that green color is in the first pic.

Don't think I've ever seen a Tudor with the diagonal siding. Is the siding in good shape? I have yet to see diagonal siding that doesn't suffer from extensive rot. If it's not in good shape perhaps now would be a good time to replace it since you will be painting.

Yes it’s an odd mix of styles. good point about the siding. its probably in worse shape than we can see.

I thought I’d share our process, since we had originally planned to paint our house Intellectual Gray as well. We based our repaint palette in part on our neighbors’ home, which uses Intellectual Gray (SW 7045) for the body, Urbane Bronze (SW 7048) for the trim, and an off-white accent color (I don’t recall the specific name). While we admired their combination, we wanted a softer overall look, and on our north-facing home, Intellectual Gray appeared too purple. Our neighbors’ home faces south, so the color never takes on that purplish cast.

We ultimately chose the lighter shade of Amazing Gray (SW 7044) for the body, Anonymous (SW 7046) for the shutters and trim, and Porpoise (SW 7047) as accent colors on the pillars and porch. We—and all of our neighbors—have been very happy with how it turned out.

One other factor worth considering is roofing: we have a medium-brown architectural shingle roof, while our neighbors have a black metal roof. Looking at the original photo you posted your roof looks similar to ours. Good luck!

Thank you for your personal experience - that is helpful to know about IG.. i was thinking it usually had a greenish cast but I’ve heard some greys can go either way! yes we are north facing and roof is a neutral beige/slight grey..

What kind of siding do you have? If it's vinyl I would NOT recommend painting it, it'll chip and be a total hassle. https://washingtonsequoiaroofing.com/can-vinyl-siding-be-painted/

I would not keep the stucco as is. Paint it a color similar to the wood color. I think it will downplay the dominance of the center section. It seems too prominent, let it blend in.

You don't show the garage door but I would paint it to blend in also.
