Can you do a separate roof on each side of the bumpout? Do you use that area?

Our cousins had this installed and it's very pleasant to sit under. It lets diffused light in although you could get a solid roof.

Instead of a covered patio on the right, a bbq gazebo would allow it to be placed in the yard away from the windows. This one has room for a couple of chairs but main seating is usually away from the smoke.

A larger tree would provide some shade.
