Living Room Redesign!

Living room

I am looking for ideas to completely redo our living room. We got rid of our sunken living room floor and the gas stove which was by the stairs.

We need to pick out floors which will extend from the living room to the dining room, kitchen, straits and upstairs bedrooms and hallway.

What type of floor should we put in, that’s durable for high pet and kid traffic that would not clash too much with the cedar ceiling?
We had cork and liked it but it was not durable and we don’t want cork in our upstairs bedrooms (we are taking out the carpet).
What type of flooring and color should we consider?

Also, any suggestions on what to do with the space by the stairs?

We need lots of storage space for small random things that end up on our kitchen counter or in our drawer cabinets.

We like century modern and minimalist style and would love some advise on flooring, corner by the stairs, wall pain and overall design. The only thing we plan on keeping from the current furniture is our big L shape gray couch and small piano keyboard.

Please help us redesign this living room into comfortable living space!

Sorry you need more than one picture and many more details for support. People need to know where the doors are, windows, what is needed etc.

We can only wish we knew how the space in the two photos relate to one another. A floor plan would be a help. Since some of the walls of the space are missing it's hard to determine where to suggest you place a TV or focus your attention. Is there no fireplace in this space?

The green wall appears to be curved when you look at the base of the wall yet not curved when you view the top of the wall. How is that accommplished?

It would be logical to simply continue the same wood flooring you currently have install in the home to continue through your newly remodeled area. I don't think you want to introduce a different flooring into the mix.

We'll look for some expects to give their opinion but I don't think you have cedar on your ceiling. I cannot identify the wood, but I don't think cedar would take a finish that appears to be applied to your wood plank ceiling.

Thanks for all the great questions. You are right the ceiling is not cedar but pine.
The floor visible in the picture is old cork that will be replaced and the floor that will be installed in the living room will extend to the dining room and the kitchen.
We don’t have a TV on this floor on purpose neither we have a fire place.

The green wall in the picture looks curved only because I was cleaning up the photo to erase the cabinet we have on that wall.

Attached is the layout of the main floor.
Hopefully that helps in generating ideas in the floor, paint, and furniture design.
