I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for - but there are a few different patterns that are made with various sized tiles. The tiles are sold together (example - Versailles pattern) in order for the sizes to fit exactly together (with the grout line as part of the calculation).

Here is the Versailles pattern (sometimes referred to as French pattern) using slate tile - although the installer made a change when installing the second to last row by the baseboard).

Below is another pattern that is used (some refer to it as a "pinwheel" -there are other names for it also).

You cannot mix sizes unless they are modular; does the tile line you like offer other sizes?

My first piece of advice is to ask your tile installer if he is able to work with this sort of pattern. Some installers may have little experience with this patterning. Would definitely get someone who has had experience.

My advice keep it simple all 12 x24 on bathroom floor , shower walls , matching grout and just smaller same tile on the shower floor. Then in 2 yrs you will not be looking at it saying "what was I thinking" That simplicity allows you to change wall color, accessories whenever you want.

These patterns were very popular in the mid/late 1990's, specially with travertine or travertine-look porcelain.

Keep it simple and go even larger if the scale works with the bathroom size. I used 24x24 tiles for my master bathroom floors and 30x30 on the shower walls.

Thanks Skippack. The tile I'm using comes in 12x24, 24x24 and 24x48. I might just have them layed slightly offset as they did in the picture for my tile. I like the idea/look of the layout not being completely uniform so mostly I was just looking for advice on how to find more photo examples of a mixed tile layout to see patterns and see if I liked it. Dani gave some good examples and I can see those might be too busy for what I'm going for.

The reason I asked whether they were modular is two fold. Some tiles in the same line are not the same thickness and it's not advised to mix them. Also, grout lines are something to account for; you'll end up with larger grout spacing because it's not accounted for in the layout. The examples shown are modular patterns.

Skippack, that's a good question I'd have to look into. All it says on the website is edge type rectified, but nothing about modular.
