What colour appliances should I choose?

last month

I’m currently replacing all of my kitchen appliances….stove, fridge, and dishwasher. I love the Kitchenaid Juniper Green selection. My problem is that I have to get a 30 inch refrigerator because of space restraints. That size is not available in the Juniper Green. Im reading that I can do a Stainless refrigerator with a Juniper Green stove and dishwasherand that

it will actually look more balanced. If I do that, I would have stainless handles on the Juniper Green diswasher and stove. I also have a stainless under cabinet range hood. Im worried that it will look like mismatched appliances? Any thoughts would be welcome.

A specific color that makes you go for one brand for all appliances isn't going to get a recommendation. Going all stainless will allow you to choose the better product for each appliance. Like a Bosch or Miele dw. Or an induction range.

Why would you go with green? Why would you go for all one brand of appliances? One brand does not make the best of everything. I have an LG fridge, electrolux warming drawer, Bluestar range, Vent-a-Hood vent hood, Bosh dishwasher and Kenmore microwave What happens when that green color is discontinued and you need to replace an appliance? Go with all stainless.

Thank you all for your help. Im going with Bosch electric range and dishwasher. Maytag fridge. I researched Bosch and they are highly recommended. Maytag has good reputation for refrigerators, from what I read, and Bosch doesn’t make the 30 inch fridge. I also get to take advantage of a promotion from all that saves me the taxes!

I didn't know they made Juniper Green now - I like it!! I wouldn't choose it though for the reasons others mentioned. I always buy best of breed rather than one brand and I wouldn't want to deal with the mismatch when the first one fails. I do love seeing pictures of vintage kitchens with all the colored appliances. I've owned a few homes with the old coppertone which I always liked as I'm not a fan of stainless. I bought black for a house eleven years ago but stainless more recently even though I don't really like it.

I have an outside of the box suggestion. I would look at getting the appliances wraped with car vinyl. There are several reputable high heat car wraps that are also suitable for appliances. Take a look at Rvinyl- they have a section on their website for appliance wrap.

I have a second home at the beach and I found that the stainless appliances actually rust when ever water gets near them. They look so unsightly. I just purchased a white fridge, but my stainless dishwasher and stainless range are only 4 years old, so I am having my oven wrapped in a matte white high heat vinyl. We did a test last weekend with a 2 foot piece of it, where I wrapped it around the front and edge, then turned on the pizza setting in the oven to confirm that it could handle the heat. There was no issue, the wrap handled it with no problem, no turning of color and no smell. To be clear the wrap doesn't go inside the oven, it only goes over the stainless steel skin of the door.

You can get many colors and even have a custom color if you want to pay for that. I was easily able to remove the wrap with no damage to the stainless part of the oven door. These are designed to be fully removable. The vinyl wrap is thicker that I realized, so it should be able to handle normal wear and usage.

I took the oven door off the range and removed the outer stainless skin and brought it to a professional car wrap detailer. The are charging me $350 to wrap the door and the drawer below the oven. You could also do it your self. I have been researching this online and there are a couple of bloggers who did the wrapping themselves. I am not wrapping the oven door handle- that will remain stainless. It is a realatively easy and cheap was to get to totally new look for your kitchen.

I know you didnt ask, but the fridge location and restraint would drive me nuts. It shouldnt be a huge expense to rearrange the fridge cab section., so that a fridge the size you desire would move away from the window and some creative carpentry to fill in the rest. you could even paint that area your juniper green, as that area of cabinetry is forward of the others. Please feel free to ignore my suggestion, though.

It would be difficult to move the fridge. There’s no other space in the kitchen. There are two closets on wall between kitchen and dining room. One is an appliance closet, and one coat closet, neither of which will accomodate a 36inch fridge. My only option that I see is to combine dining room and make one large kitchen and put fridge in there. I’d have to change flooring and the fridge would not be close to my working area, which is a pain. We’re in our seventies so not wanting a big reno…..

To clarify moving the fridge, i meant keeping it in the same area, but just switching the fridge with the tall cab which is right next to it, (in other words, cab next to window, then fridge) as the simplest change, minimal carpentry and should be no flooring issue.

With a little more carpentry work, moving the fridge over but expanding the size of the fridge to allow for a ”normal” size fridge, then some carpentry to fill out the space next to the window, as the cab will no longer fit. Again, no flooring issue.

I'm in the same age group as you so I understand, but if it were me, I would investigate the process I think it would improve my enjoyment of the space. You have a lovely kitchen and this would make a great improvement without any major costly reno.

    Gotthca! its certainly worth considering.

In refernce to the vinyl wrapping, that would be so convenient if I were getting the Kichenaid Juniper Green. I could wrap the non matching Fridge in something creative! However, I’m safer with the Stainless when you consider what may happen down the road.

I would get only the range in Juniper Green (e.g., KitchenAid KFIS930SJP 30 Inch Freestanding Induction Range) and the other appliances in stainless. The range could then be, for now, the center of attention but could be replaced in the future with a stainless model if the green color were discontinued.

If the dishwasher works okay, you might check whether you can replace the black door panel with a stainless one. Get the model number and search for parts. It's generally easy to replace a dishwasher door panel; just a few screws attach it to the door.
