Thermador refrigerator

last month

We have a Thermador at our house purchased two years ago due to the reliability and support consistent with the brand’s reputation. Within just two years, the internal lights failed completely—hardly acceptable for a high-end product at this price point.

The bigger issue, however, is what followed. Despite purchasing an extended warranty specifically to avoid out-of-pocket repairs, we spent over two weeks being bounced back and forth between Thermador and the warranty provider. Each pointed to the other, and ultimately we were told the repair falls into a “gap” between the manufacturer warranty and the extended warranty.

This is not a gray area—it is a failure of Thermador’s warranty ecosystem. Customers are sold “peace of mind,” but when something actually breaks, the structure is designed in a way that allows both parties to deny responsibility.

For a premium brand, this is unacceptable. A lighting system failing this early is already concerning, but the complete lack of ownership and accountability is far worse.

At this price level, customers should not have to navigate loopholes between Thermador and third-party warranty providers just to get a basic repair covered.

Bottom line: You can pay for the appliance and pay extra for the extended warranty—and still end up paying out of pocket because of how Thermador structures its coverage relationships.

I would strongly caution prospective buyers: do not assume that “extended warranty” with Thermador actually protects you. Based on this experience, it clearly does not.

Thermador, as part of BSH Home Appliances, needs to take accountability for how its warranty partnerships function in practice—not just how they are marketed.
