Bygone Era Treasures

Our house is under contract and the packing has begun. That means opening drawers and closets and finding all sorts of treasures. These were from my grandparents. Have you ever seen anything quite so darling? Google tells me they are probably Shaftord Le fleur porcelain place setting cards. Probably from the 50s to 60s. That checks. My grandparents were high society New Yorkers of that era so I’d like to think the one that says “Audrey“ was clearly Ms. Hepburn.

My great aunt had mirrored ones with painted flowers, probably prewar.

There were lots serving and food-drink adjacent things that were related to types of entertaining that does not get done any more like ladies' luncheons and bridge parties, and men's card parties and even having people over to watch TV.

I have those same china placecards Jojoco, and use them several times a year in spring and summer with the pink and green flower border Limoges plates. They are SO pretty with a white or pink tablecloth….I hope you are keeping them!

I also have these place cards but didn't think they were from the 50's. Can't remember where I got them but it was around 1980. I often use them to identify dishes a buffet table. Love them.

What a great find! I need to do a big "purge" at my house - this makes me a little more excited to do it. There are some boxes in my basement from my mom and nana's houses - I might find some forgotten little treasures like these porcelain place cards!
