It depends on what your budget is, especially if not doing everything yourself. Suggest putting together a list of your priorities. Painting all one color for sure, consider the color family/how light-dark, then test a number of shades and be sure to include the second floor‘s balcony railings. Consider the roof’s color as well. It’s a big commitment and maybe look for inspiration on line for ideas.

It would help to see the two doors better..which is the front door? You could create a more defined, prominent entrance.

Landscaping can have such a big impact and having both a short term and long term plan to spread out the costs and labour is good way to tackle.

I have a similar style white house but with a front elevation chimney with a trellis of clematis. Presently my foundation plants need to be thinned out and replace but foundation plants help my odd house look more cottage like.

Is the siding vinyl? If so, painting it is going to be tough. Do you have the budget to replace all of one color or the other?

You have a front gable home with double dormers. The original house was built late1800s, early 1900s and is in the Tudor/Victorian style. The original second floor had steep walls...think attic.. Sometime, maybe in the 50s, the dormers were added.

One color, a bit more focus on the door and some foundation plantings will work wonders. The form of the house isn't that weird, the two color scheme just makes it look that way. A little paint, a little landscaping and a little love and it will look great.

Since it's aluminum, it should paint well. We had aluminum siding on the 116 year old house that I grew up in. My dad painted it and it lasted for years. I would definitely go for all white and maybe brighten up the front door. The idea of adding a trellis or planting in the center wall between the two windows will break up the large facade a bit. I also like @tracefloyd's idea of a flatter, more modern awning.

Your house was neglected. The porch fell off or was removed for sale. Your neighbors probably love you for buying this property and fixing it up. An older neighbor may even have a picture of it in better times.

After reviewing this project, I realize the house is a bit far from the street.

• Increase the size of the red rose bushes in front to make more of an impact from a distance.
• Reduce the length of the proposed front walkway to connect to the driveway not the street.
• Use brighter magenta flowers near the door.
• Remove the portion of hedge to the left of the mailbox for a better view.

I don't like to rely on plantings to "fix" anything. AI plantings always look better than reality and everything blooms at the same time in AI-world. I do like one paint color for everything. And paining the house white makes the windows cheaper to replace and still look great. Colored windows cost more for some dumb reason, and white windows only look great with white or pastel house bodies. Every other color only looks ok at best with white windows. Your house style looks fabulous in all white with an accent color at the door.

I think most people can differentiate concept vs. reality because only in some areas do flowers bloom all year for instance.

I would gently power wash the siding before you paint it. However, a white house is versatile. It looks great as a background to any landscaping you choose. Make sure to plant colorful bushes and flowers (hydrangeas - the blue ones, roses, day lilies, etc.)

The front door can be your favorite color. And it can be changed easily to make the house feel fresh.
