People here really hate popcorn. :)

Personally, there is zero way that I would scrape a popcorn ceiling or have it scraped. If I could not have it covered with dry wall- it would have to stay. And if I had to crane my neck to even see it- even more reason to ignore it.

If the popcorn police do convince you to go through that scraping nightmare- before you embark- have it tested for asbestos.

Drywall is the answer. Use 3/8 , NO to 1/4 inch. Too thin and it will sag.

I dislike them for the simple reason they look awful and are impossible to clean. I have used 1/4 " drywall to cover them with no sagging . The asbestos issue is a whole other game so scraping is not ideal but the truth is keep it wet and the asbestos is not an issue but MESSY the cover up just better.. I agree if they do not bother you leave them.

Recommend getting a quote to cover/remove to help determine if it‘s worth addressing especially being cathedral. Objectionable is a strong description unless it has a thick/horrendous texture. If fresh white and minimal, it comes down to how much it bothers you.

Could the sunroom remain as is, but paint ceiling/walls an attractive color and ceiling‘s texture will disappear. If covering, consider a different application than LR/DR and it potentially could be less expensive.

That was one of my "demands" when we built our house in 2021, no texture on any walls or ceilings. Plain flat/smooth for everything. It takes some more work for the mudding/plaster crew, but it isn't brain surgery. I'm in FL where they like to throw some type of texture on walls and ceilings, but my builder was happy to do all smooth.

There are a lot of objectionable things in this world and a poporn ceiling sure isn't one of them. It seems that it doesn't bother you and that is what counts. Your house.

If the ceilings need painting, have them sprayed not rolled.

Well oncape, for my own home, popcorn ceilings are highly objectionable. Before moving into my former house it was one of the first of a number of things addressed. That said, again speaking for myself only, I dislike texture of any kind on ceilings. What other people have doesn't bother me!

I think it’s just what hits your own eye and bothers you - we did remove a popcorn ceiling in a hallway and it looked a lot brighter and cleaner after, so def worth it there, but mainly because I noticed it..

The first time we viewed our home, I noticed the stark white stucco ceilings in LR, DR and Master (rest of house is smooth), but have never considered removing even when we were painting the entire interior. I’m fine with them…as they say, it’s in the eyes of the beholder.

@Indigo Rose, look up the meaning of objectionable. And, please, my comment is meant for @jsheda. How you feel about your ceilings matters not to me.
