Some scarves, necklaces and earrings to keep the solids from getting too boring. Mostly "resort casual" for dinner, but we do dress up a bit for the meet and greet and the farewell, thus the skirt and the dress. Casual during the day.

I'll also have what I'm wearing....a top...still debating the color, jeans, and a fleece jacket.

Still need to finalize shoes and bring a bathing suit and cover up, pjs and such. But I think I'm about there. We went over DH's wardrobe too and he appears to be in good shape.

What say ye? Any suggestions? Changes?

IDk, I tend to pack things that can all be worn with each other. I would swap the yellow and gold with something that goes with more of the other items.

It looks like you are prepped for a brand new outfit everyday. If you have the room then go for it but I have to agree with the mix and match packing. Its rare for an item to make it into my suitcase that can't be worn with several other items. This has me packing about half of what you are willing to haul around. As I age this is increasing a bit. I seem to soil my blouces soo much faster than I once did.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wanted the gold and the yellow just to have something other than all the blue. The pants are more camel color so they will go with the navy and white and they are so darn comfortable. The skort has some yellow so the yellow top will go with that as well as the jeans, shorts and navy skirt. But I can rethink that some too. I appreciate the input!

I'd add in blue stripes or olive/khaki stripes. But also I could never wear such a strong yellow so that might be biasing me

As I said, it's not as strong as it looks in the photo, neither is the camel pants. The shirt is more like this color:

It looks well planned - colorful, varied and interesting. My packing wardrobe resembles my closet, mostly solids in navy, black and green. Not colorful, not varied, definitely not interesting. You'll look fresh every day!

Will you need a rain jacket? Something lightweight that can fold into a little pocket?

Thanks maire...missed you at tulipmania!! We bought some rain capes that fold up into a small pouch. But looking at the weather, it's supposed to be dry the whole time.

I think you have a good mix of colors, solids, and prints Annie. Camel and blue is one of my favorite combinations. and I think you’ll get a lot of wear with the skort and various tops. 👍👍

I am planning on a top for each day as they lose their freshness for me quickly, especially in the heat. I have switched out the yellow top for a white ss gauze top with a collar. But I still like the olive and the camel pants as they are comfortable and neutral enough to go with most of my tops as well as the two cardis which I'll probably wear in the evenings at dinner.

Annie -I hope you'll report back on the train trip. I've been considering doing something similar for awhile now. I think you're packing list looks great. I wonder if you want to consider some slippers for the train? I always pack them for long flights now and find they really help me stay comfortable because I'm able to get out of my shoes. I just make sure they have a hard sole, and I take the low-profile fold-in-half style. Most importantly: do you have your Kindle and lots of books loaded up?

FWIW, when I pack, every top has to go with every bottom. Sweaters or other warm layers have to go with everything. Then I throw in a couple of scarves. They don’t have to go with everything, but they do have to bring cohesion to several outfits. I pack 2 pair of shoes: comfortable walking shoes (sneakers) and a pair of neutral flats. Sometimes I add a pair of sandals.

I am prepared to wear tops twice and bottoms 3 times, assuming no access to laundry facilities.

You are much more disciplined than me. I kind of just throw anything I might want to wear in the suitcase. And then throw in some more last minute. And come home with many unworn things. I am the worst packer ever.

I would love to do a train ride through the rockies. I'd looked into one through the Canadian Rockies. I was shocked at how expensive it was. If I remember correctly, it was about $10k for 4 days for sleeping car with private bathroom. I would still love to do it as I'm sure the scenery is spectacular but need to find something more reasonable.

Yes to sunglasses and hat. Also sun block.

I haven't loaded any books on yet, but I have one on there I've never started, 2 I like to read as I'm able... each chapter is like a separate story so easy to pick up and put down, and I found a paperback at a free library which will keep my attention up on the plane. I'll also be bringing my earbuds so I can listen to podcasts and such. I also pack a passel of puzzles. I like to go through my NYer mags -- of which I have years worth -- and pull out articles to read and toss the rest of the magazine. That way, I can bring just the articles I want and toss when I'm done.

I've also bought an extra camera battery and will be bringing the charger too. And I can't live without my apple watch/charger and of course iphone charger. Without the phone, we are dead in the water. I also bring an extension cord so I can charge stuff while I'm using it at night.

I keep a list that I print out of things to remember to pack and things to remember to do before we leave and things to do to the house on the day we leave like make sure the lights are all off. It helps with peace of mind for sure.

I agree that your planned wardrobe - especially with the addition of the white top - sounds like a winner. All you have to do now is relax and have a wonderful trip with your DH! We will be looking forward to some photos :)

You look well-planned and anything that's missing can usually be bought. Have a wonderful trip!

I made sure I and DH have spare eyeglasses as well. Nothing worse than breaking one pair and having nothing to see with for the rest of the trip!

I don’t usually think about extra glasses but this time I brought extra real glasses plus extra drugstore glasses that I use for reading in bed. Glad I did. My cabin steward accidentally stepped on a pair of the drugstore glasses. He was horrified. One of the officers found me at lunch to tell me what had happened. The glasses were old and inexpensive so not a great financial loss and because I had others, not a problem. He was so chagrined even though I told I had backups and I wasn’t angry.

Thought I'd do an autopsy on my wardrobe as the trip is done. Too many bottoms...just right on tops...one for each day. Our bags were far from full.

We erred on the formal side as, in the past, the first and last nights were more formal. But this trip most men were just in shirts and pants. That first night, I never saw so many hawaiian shirts on men before ever...even in Hawaii! The last dinner, there were only 3 men in jackets, including my DH. I wore my skirt for 1st night and my navy dress for last night. I did wear my cardigans.

I never wore my skort or my olive pants. I did throw in a pair of black yoga pants which I wore. I threw in a pair of heeled sandals at the last minute which I wore instead of the dressy flats which I never wore. I did wear both pairs of flat sandals and got a lot of use out of my LEMs which are like flat sneakers that got me through the National Parks.

I packed 3 scarves but only wore 2 of them. Mostly in the am which was chilly...then I tied it on my purse when it got too warm.

I had too much jewelry as my everyday worked fine...only wore something different for first and last night. Never used the scarf rings.

My fleece jacket worked well for traveling there and back as I always freeze on airplanes. DH was especially happy with his as he wore it more often in AC.

So all in all, I think we did pretty well.

Sounds like you planned well and had a fabulous trip! The woman who writes The Vivienne Files says for future planning, it is just as important to look at what you didn’t wear as what you did.

You were smart to throw in the yoga pants. It didn’t take me long on my France to trip to realize that I had not packed any ”lounging in the room” clothes. A pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt would have been so welcomed!

How was the trip?

Trip was great. I need to spend time downloading the photos and then curating them -- so many! Then I can summarize the trip for everyone.

We had a wonderful time. Two highlights were Arches NP and the train ride through the rockies which was all eye candy all the way! But I'm glad to be back in the greenery. We're not used to 0% humidity and temps near 100. I used more lip balm out there than I do at home in the winter! And we couldn't get enough water. But we are both delighted we went.

That sounds amazing! I really want to do a train trip and would love details!
