Spelling Bee is the reason I cough up $$ for the games subscription. I get Wordle, Connections, and Strands out of the way...then settle in for SB.

She hasn't been here for so long. Every time I am in Pt Townsend WA, where her gorgeous home was, I look at all the Victorian mansions and think of her, trying to figure out which might be hers. Though didn't she move back to Alaska? eta: I did a little sleuthing and found the house. I won't publish details, tho I don't think she lives there anymore. It is so gorgeous!

In my old house, I painted a bathroom cabinet using her instructions. Worked like a charm!! Wonder where she went?

Yes! I ”saw” that in the letters too! And totally agree with you Lisa about a missed pangram. If corndog is a word, surely chilidog deserves to be one as well?

@dedtired. I don't think it is cheating, but I don't use them. I think if I started, I would just use them all the time and then that changes the game.

LOL, around here at county fair time there are corndogs and chilidogs aplenty and both are considered portmanteaus in word and nature and deed 😁

I thought the distinction made sense. Make me wonder about other cases. I'll have to keep my eye out.

It is, IMO. I will not use Spelling Bee Buddy until I get to Genius, then, when I can't get any more words, I will sometimes use it to try to get to Queen Bee. But if I can only get to Queen Bee using Spelling Bee Buddy, I really don't consider myself to have hit that level.

I didn't see chilidog perhaps because that would be a hard pass for me.

I have also learned that Spelling Bee is not just about finding words, but finding words that Sam knows, LOL. I have quit writing him angry emails.

I guess Im a cheater. I like to know how many Pangrams , but i only start using Hints and Buddy when Im totally stuck.

And why are words from some foreign languages allowed but not others? And ” alee” is a perfectly good word but never accepted? Humph.

Lots of good words are not accepted. I have come to peace with this.

I do the Bee every day with a goal of achieving Genius — that’s good enough for me. I use Hints only when I’m stuck and wondering how many ”ta” or ”sl” words (etc) there are. I don’t even know what Buddy is…? Will have to look.

I remember Igloochic, but barely. Maybe because she was active for only a short period of time after I started on this site.

I do try to work the SB every day. I sometimes use the link to ’Hints’ to see how many total words there are after my brain shuts down. And to see how many more words start with the first 2 letters and how many pangrams. usually I get at least to Genius before I do that. I didn’t know about Buddy either but have peeked on occasion at the ’Community’ tab where clever clues are given.

And I should have been making a list of ‘words I think should be acceptable’. For example online is but inline isn’t, many technical words b/c they say it’s an acronym (so is ’radar’ but it’s ok)🤷🏻‍♀️

I do not think Spelling Bee Buddy is a cheat. I used to do it manually with a grid and it was a huge PITA. Anyway, it's about figuring out the words, not banging my head against the wall trying to think of another word beginning with PH when I've already found them all. Using Community is definitely a cheat/spoil. Some days when I've spent waaaay too much time coming back repeatedly to SB I will purposely look something up in Community and that means I concede, I'm finished for the day. But today I reign as QB.

I get mad every time they accept TINCT but not INTINCT or INTINCTION. Grrrrr.

I do the Spelling Bee daily, but I make it a personal challenge to have to start with the panagram and get to Genius. Sometimes the panagram jumps out at me immediately, but other times I don't finish it til lights out. (My four-year-old gs thinks its a hoot to press every letter repeatedly and then giggle as I try to pronounce it.)

@jojoco, I consider it a personal failure if I can’t find the pangram first - or at least one pangram.

I play in a group (4 of us - I’m the only one who doesn’t share DNA with the others). We report to the group when we’ve reached Genius and again if we make it to QB. Plus we all play Wordle, Connections, and Strands.

I also work the NYT Crossword if I have time.

I like finding the pangrams because of the high points toward genius, but I think there should be a special award for getting to genius without the pangram. That is more difficult and not a failure to me.

I often get the SB pangram, but that game is my cognitive "warm up" so I usually lose patience after Amazing. Sam often has me chafed, too. Especially recently, it seems.

Family members and I share Wordle scores, so, on my honor, I do not use any clues. Connections hasn't stumped me for a long time, and I'm usually good at sorting out the purple first after expanding my ways of viewing the words. But I don't think seeking "help" on these games is cheating, depending upon to whom you are accountable.

I usually start with the mini and spelling bee as my ”warm-up” also. Once I get to genius I don’t keep going. I do remember Igloochic and her Victorian. I think she had a little boy and decorated his room in a jungle theme if I am remembering correctly.
