More rain and more daylilies open

My gardens only got about a quarter inch of rain from last night's storms, but the tornado warnings were too close for comfort. There was a lot of wind rotation damage less than three miles away from a tornado that stayed above the ground. Some of my blooms looked battered this morning, but most were OK.

The Ultimate Sacrifice had its ffo yesterday. This Southern evergreen is multiplying OK, is shorter than it was in Nashville, and has a modest bud count.

Yoga Man, also a Southern evergreen, is doing horribly this year with extremely short scapes and only 3-4 buds per scape. It definitely did not like last winter's multiple days with below-zero temperatures.

As you can see, Fighting Fire has blooms that are down in the foliage. It's a semi-evergreen. Last year's first blooms were short - but not this short. The rebloom scapes were closer to registered height. I don't think it has multiplied at all here.

Core Values X Bowtie Affair, an evergreen seedling, multiplies great here but only has bud counts of 8-12. It rarely shows the eye patterns here that I saw in Nashville.

Grandma's Smile X Bubblegum Queen had its first flower today. The picture does not show how pretty the flower is in real life. It multiplies OK here, while scapes are bit shorter, and bud count a bit lower.

Dancing Flamingo, a semi-evergreen, has multiplied by one fan. Bud count is much lower here. I have one 30-inch scape and the rest 20-inch scapes. It first opened a couple of days ago. In real life, the color is deeper, darker and brighter. It's very hard to photograph in the bright sunshine.

The weather extremes have definitely taken a toll on many plants. I also notice more bug damage. It is not uncommon for some evergreens not to produce many blooms, but to multiply well. I always had that with Fabulous Frieda. So many fans, so few blooms, and such short scapes. One can only hope that last year's winter will not soon be repeated, but with climate change, every season seems to bring extremes.

Mantis - I do think weather extremes - unfortunately - are here to stay.

Weather extremes are different but trouble everywhere. Fighting Fire started out short here Debra, but it corrected and is abourt to bloom again on rebloom scapes. Core Values X Bowtie Affairi is my favorite of these. It is awfully pretty.

So glad the tornado missed you.

kay - I may need to move Fighting Fire to a more sheltered spot nearer the house. I do love it, and it does rebloom here too. I'm glad you like Core Values X Bowtie Affair! I had several nice patterned seedlings, but I only brought that one because it had the most complex pattern. I'm disappointed the eye pattern doesn't show here. It's still a nice plant and will make a pretty clump this season.

Fighting Fire is so pretty! Hopefully it will self correct or a move will do it!! The Core Values seedling is quite lovely even without the patterns. Grandma’s Smile seedling kept its pretty ruffles!

I like Dancing Flamingo. I looked it up and see he registered it with 46" scapes with 8" bloom. It would be interesting to see what other growers show as the height they get.

Julia - Dancing Flamingo was never taller for me in Nashville than 28-29 inches, so I consider 30-31 inches good. None of the later Pierce cultivars I bought was ever as tall as advertised. I used to laughingly say you had to subtract 10-20 inches from the registration heights.
