This could work if it is very hot and dry. In more normal temps it may be more water than they need. For 5 days, I might water them and have them in the shade with a saucer.

This is how I used to handle year old roses when I did a lot of rooting. It was a lot easier than watering a lot of little pots, and worked just as well. I'd put a couple of inches of water in the pool, let it dry out for a day or two, then put a couple of inches back.

IME, it takes a long time of sitting in water to rot rose roots - along the order of a couple of months. Anything else stuck in the baby pool with them showed signs of distress long before the roses.

Yes, i do this with tons of young roses in band pots now. just let then dry out every four or five days.
