Tuesday's Treasures on a Cool Day

My favorite blooms today were on an evergreen seedling that I thought probably wouldn't make it here. Last year it put up an 8-inch scape with only three buds. Previously in Nashville scapes were short (12-14 inches) with only 8 buds. But the color was exquisite and I loved the edge, so I brought it, thinking it could at least be a bridge plant for hybridizing. I expected the harsh winter would kill it. Instead it bounced back with a vengeance, sporting 30-inch scapes with 12-13 buds and increasing from two to three fans. Here it is:

English Lavender X (Davisson seedling crossed with my toothy seedling) - It was a cool morning when most edged daylilies were not opening properly.

American Doll X Bubblegum Queen ffo - This one is doing better than in Nashville, but stats are nowhere close to registration worthy.

Perseus' Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash was jumping around in a frenzy today. It still doesn't have as many buds as in Nashville. Heavenly Snow White in on the right with blooms that wouldn't fully open after a night in the 50s.

White Tooth X Skater #4 is doing better than it did in Nashville. Scapes are still 34 inches, but the high bud count has improved from 14 to at least 18.

Denim Sky is a new one that was planted in the fall. Eric Simpson is the hybridizer.

Sensational Heart is a real beauty!! Perseus' Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash is sure looking good. Mine is low on buds this year. the English Lavender seedling is quite a beauty in both color and form.

Yes, this morning showed the CMOs. I wouldn't conclude too quickly from this season's performance, as there are many things that have jumped in height (as well as some vice versa). It is an abnormal season, but who knows, we now live in a world of abnormalities. An example here: an old Trimmer reappeared, and Voila Francois is filled with buds.

Mantis - Yes, weather extremes are the norm now.

Brad - Thanks for your comments! Is the Perseus Sandals seedling multiplying well for you? It more than doubled in fans for me two years in a row.

I love the English Lavender X …hope it continues to do well. I also like Denim Sky, such a pretty pattern.

The English Lavender X...is a beauty. It has such gorgeous blooms. Perseus' Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash is such a very good plant. It is one of my favorites. Beautiful post, Debra.

Seems like the English Lavender seedling is the winner here! I vote for it as well. Sensational Heart looks great. The Grandma’s Smile seedling is showing those ruffles.

Another lovely group of seedlings! The English Lavender seedling is my pick although the Perseus' Sandals and the American Doll seedlings are close behind. Sensational Heart is also very nice.

Thanks for the comments! I'm hoping the English Lavender seedling will do even better in future years. In Nashville it was planted in part shade, but now it gets sun daily for more than 10 hours. The American Doll seedling has improved too since getting more sun.

Sherry - Denim Sky does have a pretty blue eye. The flower is registered as 5 inches, but it's more in 4-inch range its first season here.
