Lonesome Jaguar makes an impressive clump. Star Lord and Empire of Dawn and Dusk are pretty blooms. I hope you can get Star Lord back to peak level. I see why you wanted Sweet Prairie Wind replaced-what a pretty color. Outstanding clump of Judy’s Jewel x Bubblegum Queen.

What a beautiful clump of Lonesome Jaguar. We have been enjoying it here. Empire of Dawn and Dusk is perhaps the best breeder of all our daylilies. It gives such clear colors to its offspring. It will be interesting to see what Mike Derrow has next year after taking a year off.

I really like the Red Venom seedling too--such a luscious color!

Lots of great flowers! I always like seeing Star Lord. Both of your seedlings are beautiful. Are they on track to be registered? Sweet Prairie Wind is very pretty too.

I also like Derrow's daylilies. I just added ROSIE WITH A RING this past spring. I purchased LONESOME JAGUAR last spring. It is loaded with scapes. Judy's Jewel X Bubblegum Queen #1 seedling is a looker!

Do you have the parent Judy's Jewel? Is the number 1 cross what you consider the best? Certainly looks good.

I hope that Mike is able to return to hybridizing, but maintenance of such a large growing area takes its toll. Blazing Saddles looks happy.

Mantis - Judy's Jewel never performed well for me, so I did not bring it. I thought it would probably be tender in this climate. JJ X BQ #1 has the stronger plant habit and seems to fare better in bad winters. The semi-evergreen sibling, whose bloom was preferred by most here, always has short scapes after bad winters, both here and in Nashville.

Brad - I don't know if I'll ever register anything else. My health has gone down a lot this year. I would only register more if I intended to sell them, and selling them requires a multi-year commitment. I'm hearing the new registration software system for AHS is screwed up, and people earlier this year were having trouble getting new daylilies registered. That, coupled with all the problems the Indianapolis Post Office has, makez me not want to sell. I did update my Plantfans website this year, but after the fiasco with Julia's plant, I've told people wanting to order that I'm not selling at this time. As you know, you can give a plant a garden name and share it with friends without registering it. When I first retired, registering seedlings was a goal. It's far less of one now. I'll still do a bit of hybridizing, but registration won't neccessarily be the end goal.

Nancy - I don't have many eyed daylilies anymore, but I'll have to try Empire of Dawn and Dusk as a parent. The Red Venom seedling has a lot of different looks. Sometimes it has very dark red coloring, and sometimes it has the more tropical pinkish red coloring. That photo was taken in the afternoon.

David - Thanks for the seedling comment. I know you, Nancy, and I are all big Derrow fans. I sure his health improves and he continues selling.

Your Judy's Jewel seedling is a very pretty pink....Too bad about Star Lord. You know how much I like it. If winters do it in I hope you will post that info. My Mary's Baby overwinters outdoors and suffers set backs each spring. Since Star Lord is one of her kids, I can see where genetics may play a part in its tenderness in your colder area now........I certainly understand how you need to step it back a bit, but know you certainly have informed and amazed me along our journey together over the years. Even if physically you can't do all you did before (join the club), you can still come along on the ride...........Maryl

I like the Red Venom X seedling. The stats sound promising. I would take more blooms in place of a few inches of height. I could always find a spot for a good performer despite the height.
