Large groups, small groups, and singles

This may be the last day that my daylilies will have trouble opening. No more overnight temps in the 50s are in the forecast, and things are heating up at the end of the week. Here are some group shots from the past two days.

All American Chief


Empire of Dawn and Dusk continues to impress me.


Cherry Pie a la Mode had a nice foursome.


Forty Days and Forty Nights - Nice clump, but too few blooms facing the same way.


$exy Samantha has never had color this dark before.


Porterhouse is registered as 21 inches tall, but it's 24-25 inches this season. Several scapes have good lateral branching.


Grandma's Smile X Bubblegum Delicious - Fewer buds than usual, but still one of the prettiest pink daylilies I have.


Core Values X Bowtie Affair


Believe in Miracles is taller and better budded than last year.


$exy Samantha X Bubblegum Delicious #4 has never been this dark in past seasons. It's usually a light pink


Born to Reign X (Mayan's Dawn X The Ultimate Sacrifice) has nice lateral branching on some scapes.

    Your plants have adapted well to the move-just look at all those blooms. Forty Days and Forty Nights looks so good. Great color on Porterhouse. The $exy Samantha seedlings are really showing their edges and ruffles-so pretty!

    I'm a fan of that bright red/yellow center combination and All American Chief fits the bill nicely.....The ruffles of S. Samantha and your seedling of her are calling me. Nice color too............Maryl

    Kate - Most of the daylilies I brought have adapted well to their new climate. There is at least one evergreen seedling that hasn't. It's probably getting culled after bloom season.


    Maryl - All American Chief is so showy. I had a visitor to the garden on Tuesday, and the Chief was the one she wanted to add to her garden.

    Born to Reign X (Mayan's Dawn X The Ultimate Sacrifice) is my favorite. Great color and good to hear about the branching. I like Porterhouse's colors.

    Nice grouping. I would pick Core Values X Bowtie Affair. I like how the pattern goes out on the sepals. Is it more of cream/tanish color vs whitish?

    Very pretty all. I always like All American Chief. $exy Samantha is so pretty; maybe the cooler temps give darker color. Very nice group on Core Values X Bowtie Affair and Believe in Miracles is a pretty white.

    Julia - The Core Values seedling has petals that are a light cream yellow. Thanks for your comments!


    Kay - I do the extended days of cooler temps coupled with rain has caused the darker colors.

    I would take this season's heights with a grain of salt. Yes, the Grandma's seedling looks very pretty, but Grandma the parent here had low bud count, so I guess I am biased towards the kids. Alas, the dark colors I am afraid will soon be lost in the heat and sun.

    Lovely clump shots! Cherry Pie a la Mode seems to like your garden. I also like All American Chief and Porterhouse. Your two seedlings are very pretty. We have noticed that with all the rain and cooler temperatures, colors have been intense this season. That will probably change when the heat hits.

    Nan and Mantis - Yes, temps in the 90s will fade those colors pretty quickly!
