What series? Look into the Elevate (wood fiberglass clad) or the Essentials (all fiberglass). That would be the way I would go were it me.

Your eyes do not decieve you. I suspect that your builder gets a special deal on the windows that he proposed.

Ultimately a recommendation for an alternative would be based on your location (some windows are offered regionally) and your goals for the project.

Marvin makes quality windows. They do prioritize form over function IMO, as their thermal and structural performance is not top tier... although to be fair, that is no different from most other wood and/or fiberglass windows made in the US. If I needed a real wood interior, they'd probably be my top choice.

Based on your consideration of Alside I assume that you aren't entirely opposed to vinyl. The top tier of vinyl windows available offer exceptional performance, and then there are some excellent composite options as well. Again, depends where you a located, what you are looking for in a window, and what type of operator.
