I love the reds in this post. After seeing so many of my purples on ”paper” in my last post I need to think about another color!! Having said that I hate to see you cull the gorgeous Forty Days seedling!! Those are decisions I would hate to make about my babies! I like the look of the Confessions seedling-so graceful. Glad so many if your seedli gs are doing well

Kate - The Forty Days seedling is the only seedling that really needs to go. The others are holding their own or making improvements. Since I have the two parents, I can repeat the cross, hoping to get more dormancy in subsequent seedlings. If that seedling had more going for it, I'd offer it to you. But it wasn't doing that well in Nashville either. I attributed its slow multiplication and few buds to being covered up by other seedlings in the seedling bed.

The Confessions seedling is a lovely light lavender that is doing well despite being nearly covered up by other daylilies. It needs a better growing spot.

Your purple are so pretty! I really enjoyed that purple post of yours. I have so many fewer purples now than I used to have. I wish I had brought a few more.

Another lovely group. I would pick Confessions of a Hemaholic X Entwined in the Vine. Softer colors, looks to have good amount of buds. CMO? Would love to see that in a bloom clump. In NYS I would find some of Emmerichs would tend to just get above the foliage and then after a few years they would finally get taller. I guess that could also be due to varying weather over the years.

The reds are so lovely and I do love red, but in this case Rev Ed Davidson is such a pretty thing and my absolute favorite is Confessions of a Hemaholic X Entwined in the Vine . It is so delicate and pretty. i love that one.

Debra, you know if I have any purples you are interested in you are so welcome to them! And I really do understand the culling of subpar performers and that bud count is low. If it was not a good performer in either place, that should tell you what it is capable of.

FEAR NOT is an excellent plant and has great plant habits. I too ordered VELVET HAMMER after seeing Lowell's images. Mine arrived from Korth in the spring. DIVINER'S DESIRE looks really good. I am afraid that I will be placing a big order with Mike Derrow over this coming winter (I don't know if I want to laugh or cry out loud). THE BLESSING OF FREEDOM also looks really good. I am finding that the reds and purples are really grabbing my attention. I go through phases of focusing on the pink and polychromes and now it is the reds, purples and lavenders. Thanks for posting all of this eye candy.

I'm really quite taken with the Blessings of Freedom. Such a deep luscious red. I'm glad it's an evergreen or I might be tempted and I need to download not upload dayllilies....Such a pretty pink color on the Color of Wonderful. Douglas does nail the color of what I call true pink on many of his introductions............Maryl

Im glad you posted another photo of the Confessions seedling, the first one didnt do it justice, it is so pretty. Blessings of freedom is my favorite red by far. I hope Ed Davidson does well for you….I LOVE it.

Maryl and Sherry - The Blessing of Freedom has a wonderful bloom. Nan said it didn't grow well for her, so I don't know how well it will do here in the long run. I have it planted in a sheltered place by my deck. I plan to cross it with dormant reds.

Maryl - I agree that Charles Douglas does good pinks. It's too bad they don't survive in your pot system.

David - Happy to read your thoughts on Fear Not. I just hope Derrow will be selling next year. I added Hits Different this Spring after seeing your photos, and you and Nancy have put Thunderbird Dancer at the top of my list.

Velvet Hammer is mixed this year. Some scapes short; some flowers splotchy. But it is remarkable when good. Fear Not I would not call exemplary plant habit. The flowers here are always slightly beneath the foliage (which tends to be airy). The flowers are extremely clear. Forever Redeemed is taller than normal here this year. While I like some of D's plants, I find his intros to be mixed (but one could say that of almost every hybridizer). Note that I would prefer to be called "Mantis," since there are a lot of lurkers to whom I don't want to be transparent. In general, I don't like lurkers (especially those on Facebook who don't even take time to "like" a post).

Mantis - I've noted your preference to be called Mantis and changed it in my post. I wonder if your scape height on Fear Not isn't related to where you have it planted. We'll see how it does here in future years. This year the scapes are all two or three inches above the foliage, for the most part.

The scape height (relative to foliage) is not apparent till it is clump size. It has a prominent location and has always had this characteristic. Note that some hybridizers are extremely sensitive to any criticism and will not sell to you if you make a critical comment. Hence, my desire for anonymity.

Mantis - How big is your clump of Fear Not? Maybe it's one that wants to be divided frequently to keep its vigor and height.

Actually, as I look at your first pic, your FN also seems to have leaves spiking above the blooms. The leaves are airy, so it isn't as though the blooms can't be seen.
