Please take photos looking all four ways so we can see the rest of the space and draw out the room with measuremtns. We can't advise on furniture placement if we have no idea what is beyond what we can see in this one angle. WHat color is that sofa? it looks black?

Yes. So there’s a lot going on in this room. I had a picture in my head but really isn’t looking that way. It’s an odd room with uneven dimensions and a structure on each wall. We have a large opening to the kitchen, a hallway, a fireplace, the front door, etc. Our kids play piano and being such a small house there’s no where to move.it. I’m at a total loss on making this cohesive.

I tried to put on ivory slipcovers to the brown couch but unfortunately none would fit, and hey we’re all too big and was crinkled up and the folding in the cushions looked very messy so I took them off. It’s true, there’s a lot in the room. We have a rotating book shelf unit that will be leaving. We will be installing a built-in book case to the left of the fireplace. I read and write a ton so there’s a lot of books and magazines. We also travel very often and bring back parts of our trips.

Sorry the typing in this app is glitchy so I apologize if I’m not making sense. I have to fire a way to display our travel pieces and photos more efficiently. Also should the rug be a different pattern or a different size? The two chairs to the right are my nemesis, frankly I’ve never wanted to keep them. They were just placeholders. Wondering if I get a small sectional with an ottoman that can move to either side of the sectional and should I use a coffee table anywhere? I need to keep the circular ottoman but can also move it to in front of the two chairs?

I don't see a lot of "travel" pieces but lots of pictures in frames. Can't really see the sofa style due to its darkness. Remove all the stuff off it. The chairs are similar to DIS' rendering so you could work with them. There's also lots of floral/trees - are they real or fake?

Yeah a lot of our frames are from overseas, the candles, two pillow covers are from Greece, basically a few little things hinge around. All plants are real except the orchid , olive tree.

I'd pull the seating a little closer together and go with a slightly smaller rug so more of the hardwood floor shows, similar to the inspiration photo. It makes the seating area feel more connected instead of having everything pushed toward the edges of the room.

As alredy said, the fireplace is the one thing I'd eventually update. The current stone has a very irregular pattern that competes with the rest of the room. I'd lean toward a cleaner stacked-stone look (something like the styles offered by various imitation stone products, or some kind of tiles) so the fireplace becomes the focal point without feeling so visually busy. I honestly think that would transform the room more than replacing furniture.

I also wouldn't be afraid to leave even more of the floor exposed. Rooms often feel larger when the rug simply anchors the furniture instead of covering most of the space. The inspiration photo is a good example of that, and your hardwood floors are too nice to hide.
