The front door color depends on what direction the house faces.

Dark, like black is too intense for a south or west facing home. absorbs the heat, and could peel and fade with exposure.

Yellow is cheery. The black roof is very heavy, so a stark white/black color scheme feels severe.

A softer white rather than arctic white and a softer black, even varigated for the shingles.

I think the black roof is way too intense. It dominates the house. And the black garage door just looks like a black hole.

Agree with Lyn regarding a softer white. Suggest painting downspouts the same as siding so as not to highlight.

Is the roof existing or are you considering black as a replacement? If you're replacing, I agree that the black is harsh. Something in a charcoal might be better. Also agree with chloebud about painting the downspouts the house color. The garage door as well. I prefer a softer white, such as BM White Dove. As for the door, you can go in any direction but I like a warmer door color with a black and white color scheme. Someone on YouTube did a light beige and it was beautiful with their White Dove house. It was Farrow and Ball Jitney.

If the black roof is still under consideration, I agree it’s very harsh/severe. Charcoal would be nice.

You’ve gotten some good suggestions. Curious, in what direction does your house face? Climate? Are you replacing the roof? All of this would affect my suggestions.

You can do the black, which is fine, but predictable.

I would do this color and incorporate into the landscape plants.

Oh my. I really like the way it looks there. Why are you painting the brick. It looks so nice there right now. Leave it alone.

I grew up in England so brick is the last thing I want to look at! And the siding colour is awful in person

The inside has been gutted and updated and the outside needs to be updated. I like the black and white theme, just not sure about the door colour.

I agree with the other posters that your house's current color scheme is more inviting than the black and white. The current scheme looks much more natural in the wooded setting. Take a step back and look at the two photos that you just posted. Sure the black and white stands out more, but is that really what you want.

Between the two I prefer the black. However, as other have said, the black and white color scheme seems a bit harsh and raw.

The roof is prominent and low and with a black garage door the house will be overtaken. Suggest a lighter black roof and painting the garage the same color as house. Decide on the front door when house is done. I find your rendition feels heavy and with all the rain and dreary days be sure that it‘s the look you want.

Assuming that you’re going with black & white ( I’m soooo tired of that trend!! , EVERY new house or remodel is done in that in my area ), definitely go softer on the colors, lighter on the black, softer on the white. Your house would look much better in another color combo though, beautiful setting. Black & white does not suit your house, IMO, but it IS your house.

I have to agree the B&W is harsh choice for the PNW . I do not like the color you have now but a nicer green and keep the brick would be a better way to go. IMO painting brick instantly devalues a home so my last choice . This color of green and a brown roof would be my choice

Here as well. Everything was beige or gray, now it's all white. Although if gven a choice, I would paint mine an off white with a contrasting trim.

If you insist on painting the brick, please use Romabio, which is meant for brick and allows it to breathe. Regular house paint will not let the brick breathe and will eventually cause it to fail. I still maintain that charcoal would be less harsh for the roof than black.

I do think the dark roof is going to be unbalanced with the light house, but in the end, you have to do what you feel is best.

I really think a gray/green would be beautiful and blend in well with your wooded surroundings. If it's a fiberglass door and has a wood texture, I would stain the front door to a mid tone brown. A walnut color would be beautiful.

Unfortunately it’s smooth fiberglass door that I’ve already purchased, so paint would be the only option.

I used AI to see what a satin black door would look like. I really like it against the sage siding. Thoughts?

Sounds like you are determined to get some black on that house. While black is something, I do really like, it isnt for all houses. I dont like the door black. A darker brown would look nice. However, you can get by with painting it black too. The roof on the last picture you just posted, is a perfect color for your house. So much better than all that black.

The black is fine but I think something like SW Urbane Bronze would look nice as well. A dark brown with gray/green undertones. It would look great with a gray/green siding and not read as harsh as solid black. I would suggest the same for the garage door, although I think that would look better painted the same color as the house.

The garage door is stained fir, so difficult to match. I’ll check out the Saw Urbane Bronze though, thanks for the suggestion.
