I have Veddinge. I have them as uppers in the kitchen and floor to ceiling in the large pantry. a little over a year in, they are fine. HOWEVER it's just me, DH and 3 dogs. And we are not hard on things. I could see these cabinets having not the most durable finish. I think they would suffer with young kids.

I bought them all at once and have no issues with doors not matching. They were super budget friendly and look great - very minimalist. (not sure why this pic looks so gray / crappy - but they are quite white!)

I am pleased with them - but like I said I could see durability being an issue with kids.

Thank you very much! This comment was very helpful. I’m just having such a hard time with all of these decisions without being able to see all the samples. I am leaning towards just going all veddinge or ringhult (the high gloss option). Our budget isn’t huge and it is the most affordable option even if it is boring and plain. I can always switch out door fronts in the future. I saw photos recently with the combo that I was considering and I just don’t feel confident enough in that choice to buy it. It saves us a few thousand. I might put wood countertop on the island or some other colour under the island to liven it up a touch

I think that wood goes with wood. In my prior home, I had oak floors, maple kiten cabinets, spruce natural trim, and cherry (natural) built ins. They were all warm and inviting.

I'd use the wood on the lowers - they will hide dings and dirt better than either the Veddinge or the high gloss.

(I just got done wiping down ALL the lowers in the kitchen where I have black / brown woodgrain. I have 2 blind dogs that Roomba around and get nose prints on EVER-Y-THING. And they stick out like a sore thumb.

I am sure they are in the pantry (Veddinge) but they don't show. And in my last kitchen (only one dog was blind - but we were there for YEARS) it was maple and the nose prints didn't show.

I also agree with your IKEA assessment - if you keep things simple - you CAN swap draw and door fronts for a much easier refresh of your kitchen. I have that in the back of my mind every weekend as I wipe the cabs..

It is certainly a risk to order a kitchen without seeing a sample. And if the Ikea options are limited for your ideal outcome, then maybe consider Ikea boxes, but order doors from another company. There are several companies out there that make doors and panels etc specifically to fit Ikea boxes and fixtures - that might give you more options for profile, colour, wood species etc.

Nieu (link) has a sample option so you can order up to 4 samples.

Allstyle Retrofit (link) is another.

Both of your mockup pictures above are nice, but I lean towards the two tone with green light fixtures. I note that both are missing an exhaust hood over the cooktop. And the lone cabinet to the right of the window in both mockups doesn't seem right - not high enough to match the height of the cabinets on the other side and the one with the closed top over glass doors - seems top heavy looking.

I think you can do better than the mockups you're showing so far. Have a look at one of the companies that makes the doors that match Ikea and see if there are some additional options that might work for your space. And ideally allow you to see samples of colours and finishes before committing to an order.

When I last did Ikea cabinets, about four years ago, you could order just a drawer front from the lines your were interested in, and they would mail/ship. Returnable as well, I think.

IMO the whole point of IKea is to keep cost down and keep the warranty . If boxes only you have no 25 yr warranty so might as well just go with a local cabinet maker . I have been doing Ikea cabinets for clients for over 20 yrs and have always found doors that work . Ikea still IMO the best you get for the money but you need to factor in the delivery for sure..
