You don't need to set the sink aglow, you need to light your face in a mirror!

A led lighted mirror or medicine cabinet, with well placed recessed, or a mirror flanked with adequate lighting from sconces, WITH recessed as well does the trick.

You don't want harsh shadows on your face, nor anyone sharing that sink.

As to the shower, a light cove is up to you, but a single wet rated recessed is generally plenty.

Drama is generally overrated, lighting the room and ventilation are not: ) at all overrated.

Can't speak to the "angles" you want, nor any reason for "Under counter" lighting, unless you mean you would like to light the floor from a beneath the vanity.

Over the sink is where you need the best light.

We installed under counter lighting that is motion activated = provides just the little amount of light needed for trips to bathroom during the night (eliminates the need to turn on a light). Our contractor asked us if we wanted him to install a "diffused" type of lighting up by the ceiling - we declined.

While I've noticed that type of lighting in nice hotels when I travel, I don't think I would ever turn it on at my own house (it would have been wired separately from all of the other lights in the bathroom - all of our lights are on separate switches).

I have wall sconces/chandelier over tub (unlike most of the ones I've seen in photos, ours is compliant with code due to 11' ceiling height over tub)/recessed light in shower and in WC - they are all on dimmer switches except for in WC = I am able to create a nice lighting effect when wanted.

I think the type of light you are describing is "cool" when it's something that you don't have on an every day basis - I felt no need to install it with all of the other lights + dimmer switches.

I have never been to a hotel, even high end ones, where I thought I needed to copy their bathroom lighting plan! I usually find hotel lighting inadequate, compared to the lighting I designed for my own bathrooms/home and the way we use them.

I agree with chispa, hotel lighting in the bathroom is usually terrible. The only time I liked it was when they had a mirror with built-in lighting. The best lighting for practical purposes is on the sides of a mirror. Also keep in mind that any pictures you see may have been touched up so they don't convey the IRL appearance of the room.

I use ceiling pot lights and good LED bathbars I do not think sconces are better but good lighting is amust in any bathroom

The Wynn Hotel has the best light in their bathrooms. I always look my best in those bathroom mirrors when I'm at conventions in Vegas.
