From what I can see, I'd just do this:

Can't judge the slope well enough to know if you would need more than one step. And this only suggests placement; materials are your choice.

Not enough info or pics to help. Take the pictures from further back or draw the whole area to scale. I agree if this just goes to the driveway move the steps seems to be the logical answer and then since you love plants obviously you can plant more

Consider the slope and the height of a steps. Divide the height from bottom of run to top by the height of one step, and decide how many steps/platforms needed and stretch out the steps. You will need a laser measure, or a string from bottom to top using 2 stakes, using a level to get the string level, and then measure the height for the over all slope.

Consult a contractor that knows what he is doing.

The Japanese maple tree looks like it can use some (proper) pruning which will help open up the walkway. Fine Gardening has an overview here:
