Why a runner at all I think most are just a tripping hazard. Maybe an anti fatigue one in a plain color might work

I wouldn’t necessarily choose just based on cabinets and counter. Paint color, flooring, backsplash and even the window treatment are relevant. You also mentioned your family room and if adjacent, what is your color scheme and incorporate. Consider non slip vinyl as it just needs to be wiped up (I really like mine).

Agree that runners are tripping hazards. A plain colored one should work.

In my experience it would be very difficult to trip on a Ruggable runner. Have had one for 7 years, lays so flat that I can’t imagine how anyone could trip on it, & I’m a klutz.

I have a Tumble runner in our Kitchen and no one has tripped over it in the year or so since it's been down. It doesn't have much "thickness height" and no lose ends to trip over (it has thin non-slip pads under it that the rug is tucked into at the corners so it keeps it flat.)

Tumble rugs are washable - I've washed mine many, many times in our washer and it still looks like new.

I always have a runner in my kitchen at the sink. For my current house, I just picked one that matched the rug under our table. It's not expensive and gets vacuumed regularly. If it got really dirty or stained, I would replace it. But I've never had a runner get ruined in my kitchen.
