Highlights from the weekend.

I have managed to dig, clean and label 30 of the 40 plants that I am taking with me to MD for the sale/auction. I even had to inflate the little kiddie pool after using all of my buckets. I will post a picture of the operation when I finish. I managed to take photos of things in the garden.

Before I post pictures, I was in the garden this morning taking pictures and heard a scraping noise coming from one of the clumps. After narrowing down where the noise was coming from, I discovered a yellow jacket gnawing on a spent scape. Never had heard or seen that before.

WOLFMAN: I walked past this plant many times, as it is 18 to 20 inches tall and I am looking at the 30-36 inch plants.

SPLENDIPEROUS IN PINK: Lovely shade of pink.

IN HIGH REGARD: Love this lavender beauty

DOUBLE BLESSING: It was supposed to be Elizabeth Peacock. I actually like this one.

DAUGHTER OF THE KING: My favorite of the new pinks to the garden. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like when established.

NATURE'S CRYSTAL SEA: Spreading some of its pollen around.

NINE INCH NAILS: a very consistent performer.

BOUNDLESS BEAUTY: no hang ups. Commanding presence.

LINDA GLUCK: Gorgeous blooms, but it does have it's faults. Puts out a lot of fans, but not scapes. Bud count is not great. Usually plants like this leave the garden, but this one stays due to its looks.

The star of the garden was RULER OF NATIONS. Shade and sun pictures.

GAUDEAMUS: Has to be be a hybridizer's plant, as I don't find it very attractive. Has a nice edge.

SCARLET MARIE: two doubles in one post? I must be losing it.

Lots of beauties David. Ruler of Nations has great form and color. Daughter of the King is indeed a very pretty and delicate looking pink. Nine Inch Nails is really a spider! Striking color. And I love In High Regard.

Same experience with Linda. Apache was a sizzling color in the garden.

Ruler of Nations is striking in both pictures. I like the look of Daughter of the King.

Ruler of Nations is so much more impressive in the shade shot. I miss Linda Gluck. It didn't make the trip to Indy because of the faults you cited. In High Regard has such wonderful lavender color!

That's a lot of work. The kiddie pool is a great idea. I think we might have to try that.

I don't love double daylilies but Scarlet Marie and Double Blessing are both very pretty.

Gaudeamus has always been a disappointment for us. The color is like yours--sort of faded, not the vibrant pink I have seen in some photos. It also doesn't grow well for us. We have it planted in two places and both will be leaving the garden if they are still alive. It also hasn't been a good parent for us.

It's too bad about Linda Gluck as it is very pretty. In my opinion, how many scapes a plant makes in relation to how many fans its has is a very important consideration, even more than average bud count.

I agree that Ruler of Nations is the star today.

I've "looked at" Gaudeamus for a long time when I was craving pinks. So many photos of it show it as a true pink. Your picture (and some others like it) are what disuaded me from trying it. This is why posting more then just glamour shots on the database can save others money and frustration. Having said that I do like the edge and form of Gaudeamus, but not enough to grow it...I grew Scarlet Marie for years. A good plant. Color did start to fade however in our high heat. But our high heat (101 today) is not a northerners high heat, so it should do very well for you........Maryl

What a great selection of blooms. NATURE'S CRYSTAL SEA is one I would pick because of the coloration of it. I did have some issues with Boundless Beauty opening on a few of the blooms but it did give me a lot of scapes and buds this season and having the fencing kept the deer out.
