refinishing pine floors

Our 20 year old home has wide plank, high gloss pine floors throughout all 3 stories. Due to a kitchen remodel, floors
on 1st floor were refinished but look significantly different than original flooring and we are super disappointed. Contractor used 1 coat Bona Amber and 2 coats of Bona traffic. End result is a much more pale floor without the shine of original. Looking for advice on how to potentially fix this? I suspect we need to sand and start over. Would an oil based polyurethane give us a result similar to original floors or should we add a stain as well? Super disappointed.

The exact process of how he "Refinished" the floor would help. All steps taken? All products used?

Fully sanded. Applied 1 coat Bona Amber seal followed by 2 coats of Bona traffic (water-based polyurethane)

Too bad. That new finished floor tone is currently the most popular for new construction. To get what you prefer sample treatments on small areas are the norm. You pick one or ask for more. General Finish has warm tone oil based poly. Glossy is available.

Thanks - pretty surprised they didn’t do samples. We will be refinishing and will definitely sample before proceeding. It’s just such a mismatch from the old which carries through the rest of the house

If you redid the rest to match, it would be a very strong positive at resale. Those extra wude planks modern tone with matte finish are like gold, mo.

Appreciate that feedback - wish we liked it more. Also learning how challenging it is to live in the house with work being done. Not sure we could handle doing floors in rest of the house. Guess the shiny orange floors have grown on us.
