Please don't set up storage with unwrapped toilet paper at the level where folks will touch it with their hair. The top two photos show bathrooms with white or brass 'furniture'. I would add more white insead of an extra element of wood tone.

I never like open storage aove a toilet. I have no idea how someone's hair is going to touch the toilet paper but usually I store extra under the sink.IMO those you show are heavy looking in what appear to be tiny bathrooms. My advice really analyse what you actually NEED in each bathroom and try to keep all of that either in the vanity cabinets and medicine cabinets. I store Costco sized TP in my basement put 3 at a time in each vanity cabinet when needed. Same with extra shampoo, soap and anything else bought in bulk. Towels one for each person on hooks the rest in a cabinet outside the bathroom, often in the bedroom for each person since we had international students for years. Keep decor items to a minimum since bathrooms IMO need good cleaning often . Facecloths in a drawer all makeup in a caddy brought when needed since bathrooms are the wrong place to store makeup.

This reminds me of a phrase I heard for the very first time here on GardenWeb: Urine Mist. I’ll never forget it.

Urine mist is used in conjunction with items openly stored above a toilet. 😵‍💫

Please forgo any storage above a toilet.
Closed shelves can intrude on head space and may be awkward to access.
Open shelves catch dust,germs and debris,items can get knocked into the bowl.
Best over the toilet is a wipeable poster,picture or other flat art object.
Find an enclosed space for necessary bathroom items.
The proposed etageres look like ponderous dust catchers.
Do show us your updated and safe solution.

IF you need more storage, match the wall it will be against.

Once you hear that the toilet flush mist plume can reach up to 5 ft high in seconds, linger in the air and rain/mist on nearby countertops, sinks & faucets, it’s hard to “unhear” it. Having said that, indoor plumbing is still pretty spiffy and toilet paper is already exposed to it.

1. Close the lid when flushing. Lots of problems solved.
2. If that’s impractical, (it looks like there are lots of little ones using the Photo 2 bathroom) move the 5 toothbrushes and water pik further away from the toilet and store them either in a drawer or a medicine cabinet or covered toothbrush holder.
3. Measure your spaces to make sure these etageres will fit. It looks like they’re pretty shallow so no one will strike their head sitting but your Photo #1 toilet lid looks fairly tall and leans against the wall. Sorry to get into the weeds but make sure the bottom shelf doesn't cause the lid to prop open completely vertical or fall back against the wall.
4. In Photo #2, it looks like the etagere sides may block access to the electrical outlet.
5. Consider which items should be stored in the closed section, I’d prioritize washcloths and frequently used items.
6. If they fit, I’d match the wall color and consider the white oak for Photo 3 bathroom.

We had the same dilemma in this Simi Valley bathroom. The only place we could add storage was above the toilet, so we installed a closed cabinet that matched the vanity’s finish and style.

As mentioend here already, I agree that closed storage would look cleaner than an etagere and give you a place to hide toiletries and other bathroom items.

I do not see white oak in your bathroom, so I vote for white.

So much great advise for how others live. In the real world storage is needed and these over the toilet shelving units exist because they are used. Bathroom #2 I would say WHERE, and since a small child uses that room most often CLOSE THE TOILET! 100% agree on the toilet being closed as its resting position at all times, but it appears males run this household. ISH. Perhaps there's a little boy using that room and is always rushing in last minute...sigh. The visually filthiest surface in a bathroom is the porcelain lip, NO ONE want to see that so keep things DOWN. I think what is confusing about this ask is it really doesn't appear necessary. All rooms have storage and plenty really.

Hi, my home has no toiletry cabinet so my toiletries always end up on the counter. Also, this is a picture of my current toilet paper storage organizer. Based on the comments, I also know its a hard no for everyone in this group. I just dont know the fix, yet.

Get at least 1/2 of all of that out of the bathroom and put somehere else no one needs all that at hand in any bathroom . Once you do that then see what you need . Make up never good stored in a bathroom if at all possible and be honest when you purge about what you actually NEED at all.

As gross as it, toilet mist is getting everywhere when we flush. If you overthink you can really get the ICK from it. But if it hasn't k!lled us yet...can't worry about it too much.

Random thoughts:

- No to this type of shelves over /above the toilet. At best, they look like something picked up from Walmart clearance.

- The "feet" around a toilet create a difficult-to-clean area.

- A shallow, closed cabinet looks better than this proposed type of shelf.

- One or two shelves can look nice over a toilet, but they tend to be for looks /not so much for storage.

- I have never considered people's hair touching toilet paper, and I'm confused about why this would be a concern.

Just because you BUY a pack of 36 rolls of TP at Costco, does not mean all 36 must reside in the bath. If you use four rolls per week in a single bath? Put one on a TP holder and three more in the junkyard beneath the sink.

Store the rest in a bedroom closet and refill as needed to below the sink.

it's a first world problem of too much product, too much cosmetics, too much stuff in a bath thatI will not attractively contain ALL of it at one time. Put a vanity in your primary suite for make up and hair drying. Buy Wet Ones for your hands, until a final wash in that bath and your exit. You are asking us to reinvent the wheel : ) in a home "that has no storage anywhere?

There is no linen closet? How many towels, sheet sets do you own? No bed needs more than 2. There is NOWHERE in the house for a linen closet if you actually do not have one?

What does the rest of your home look like? Too much stuff, in too small a space is most often a whole home problem, and NOT just the bathrooms. A three bath home suggests a four or five bed house. Lets see it: )

i would spend some time getting the cabinet below the sink organized - the Container store has lots of products to help you have smarter storage there

think also about installing a recessed cabinet between the studs - it’s often a simple project
