Pizza art and science

I found what is for me the perfect way to make small pizzas, using the pizza selection in my Instant Pot toaster oven. Press the pizza selection, cute tasty little personal pizzas every time.

But sometimes I want a larger New York style pizza. I have ordered a pizza stone and will see what I can do. For those of you who like to make home made pizza there are some wonderful entertaining articles here including some by Kenji, one which he actually discusses scientific reasons for which rack in your oven to place your pizza stone.

I still dream of someday having an Oonie but for now there are plenty of good pizzas to be made in my little apartment.

Ha! P...A...and S... three of my favorite things. And whiskers on kittens, of course. Enjoy your pizza projects. Yum.

I'll have to check out the link. I don't have a pizza button on my toaster oven, but I imagine I can figure it out.

My cousin has an Oonie. When I've visited them outside Philly, it's always really fun to make pizzas and pop them in the Oonie.

Pizza is the bane of my existence. It’s not that I can’t make it, it’s that I can’t make it to my satisfaction. I’ve got a baking steel and an oven that goes to 550°, that’s not the hard part for me. For some reason my family loves when I make pizza, but for me it’s most always a disappointment.

I make GREAT home made pizzas....and I don't want an oven that heats up to 900 degrees. It's just NOT necessary to make GREAT pizzas....IMHO (Sausage & Pepperoni With extra cheese!)

Your little toaster oven sounds perfect!

@foodonastump I know of what you speak. Sure, I can make good pizza at home, but, alas, I covet greatness.

There is a famous picture 'The Creation of Adam', I wish for y'all that someday as Adam received a soul, that somehow the powers that be will reach out and touch your pizzas and give them greatness.

My fave way is to cook them on the BBQ grill. Cook one side of the crust, flip it over, add toppings, lower the lid and cook until done/hot. Don't need a pizza oven.

Favorite way to reheat any leftover pizza is a skillet on a med/low burner, cover until hot. Crust is nice and crisp, cheese all melty, toppings nice and hot.

I have a friend who got an Ooni to make pizza but found he didn't care for the process or the outcome. He now uses it as a kind of outdoor "salamander". Salamanders are the very high broiler cooking appliances used in good restaurant kitchens to cook steaks quickly to produce a good outside sear without overcooking the inside.

The pizza stone was just delivered! For those who use stones, do you use cornmeal on the pizza peel or parchment paper which is then removed to get the pizza safely on the hot stone?

I do use cornmeal on my peel. So I always have some cornmeal burning on the floor of my oven after cooking a pizza. Part of the ceremony.

I use the stone for lots of other baked goods as well.
