How does your current chair compare to the new chair in new space? Facilities people get ’funny’ about employees moving furniture locations but a really good chair can be a coveted item.

I never have had any and don't now. I worked at client locations often, sometimes in reasonably comfortable quarters and sometimes not. The work had to be done no matter what so the ambiance or lack thereof of where I was couldn't be altered.

I was transient and travelled light. No personal baggage, not even in my office at the office.

The only thing I still have from my working career is my favorite Cross pen. I took it everywhere I worked.

I still have a ’remove before flight’ red tag from the missile used to launch the first experiment I managed. It’s packed away now with a few other things but it usually lived on a small cork board I used.

I have a rail above my desk filled with photos of my family.

When I started out, in office administration, it was back before computers took us to the (ha! ha!) paperless world. Lots of stapling of papers. The typical staplers are large and heavy, and my hands are small. I bought a half-sized stapler, still made of the heavy material and so sturdy. And I took that stapler from job to job throughout my career and up the ladder. And brought it home with me when I retired. Still going strong! And a lot of good memories.

I can't see how a sterile desk area can even happen? I have my top banana award that I got from a class I had to take, I have the card key from our hotel at Disney when we went down for a convention, I have a beautiful box somebody gave me for Christmas, I have a million things... I acquired a lot of work-related items from the more than the score of yours I've been at this particular desk... My current favorite smile is this card somebody gave me. I also have a Valentine's Day card someone gave me. EDITED: Here are the cards.

I agree with @Mystical Manns that a good stapler is hard to replace. I moved one with me from office to office and company to company and then to home when I retired. I also have my desk chair as I'm short and most chairs don't work for me. I never had many decorative items, just a few deal tombstones that I left behind when I retired.

I brought my water bottle that's personalized, the pretty box, and will let the space find its own treasures. I was more wondering what others do.

Pictures of the cards are enough. It's actually what my boss is about to do. They downsized his home, and he'll have to downsize his office that's covered in awards. His wife told him not to bring it home. He's happy with just the pictures. Even the one of his 30+ year old medical degree. I'm sentimental enough, I'd keep that one.
