Oh man, what a great problem to have, too many pears!

I have canned Pear Mincemeat for pies and my favorite preserve is Readinglady's Pear Preserves but they are very sweet and take a couple of days to make. They are truly fabulous on hot biscuits. My favorite dessert is a maple pear cobbler but it's also pretty sweet and definitely not "cannable".

Annie, pear mincemeat sounds interesting, thanks! I make preserves with sour cherries and even that comes out super sweet, so the pear version wouldn’t be for me. I’ve got my Ball canning book out now. :)

Wow, floral, I will definitely try that River Cottage Pear Chutney recipe next! Thank you! Can’t believe it’s shelf stable until opened. I just finished the chutney recipe that I posted above, so I’m ready to start again. :)

Some of my chutneys and jams. Not pear but other fruits. The most recent are a year old.

The sugar and/or vinegar content keeps them. I don't can anything and it's not usual to do so over here for traditional preserves.

That was quick! The flavour will improve as it matures a bit. Good with cold cuts or cheese.

I think that I will like this chutney a lot. The malt vinegar is so distinctive in flavor and aroma that I used half cider vinegar and half malt vinegar and think it’s just right. :) I plan to take a jar if we go to any gatherings next week.

@floral_uk z.8/9 SW UK, I just made a second batch of the River Cottage pear chutney — same as before I used half cider vinegar, and that leaves me enough malt vinegar to make one more batch. I love it. I especially love the little burst from the mustard seeds. lol!
