I read Delusional by James Patterson, the latest in the Michael Bennett series. I liked it.

Now I’m reading The Fifth Witness, a Lincoln Lawyer story by Michael Connelly. I’ve read the whole Harry Bosch series, but I’m not as fond of the LL ones. Mostly reading it while I wait for a copy of The Responsible Party by Claire Carusillo, described as ”a rollicking, unsinkable and terrific read.” I saw a blurb about it in the NYT a while ago and got on the waiting list. It says I’m next in line.

I'm currently reading The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, a middle-grade book about a young girl whose life changed for the better when, along with many other children, she was shipped out of London into the countryside during World War II. I'm reading it at the urging of a new book-reading friend who loves this book. I'm thinking this will help me learn how compatible our reading tastes are.

I finished Some Bitter Taste in my project of re-reading all of Magdalen Nabb's Florence mysteries. Only two more to go. It was very good, if somber, as many of these books are. They are mysteries and novels, set in a vivid portrait of late 20c Florence and its characters and problems.

Next up, is Tess Gerritsen's just-published The Shadow Friends. This is the third in her Martini Club series which is about a group of retired CIA officers living in Camden, Maine--altho trouble keeps finding them. I've read the first two and they were good, tho I rarely read thrillers. I've been to Camden; hence my interest. A beautiful town on the coast.

I am into The Last Original Wife and am enjoying it . I like the sassy Southern way that Dorothea Benton Frank writes .

Just finished The Life Impossible by Matt Haig.

So it probably comes as no surprise that this book failed to hit even the low bar that I set for it. Dolly Alderton calls Matt Haig, "one of the most important writers of our time." Well, I think she may have something odd in her water to say such a thing.

I was cautiously optimistic in the beginning and found myself eager to read it. A 70-ish widow in England inherits a cottage on Ibiza and learns to live her life again - loved that idea! But as it became more outlandish, it also became hard to focus on the words since my eyes were rolling back in my head.
