we are thinking of putting an area rug in the kitchen...any suggestions on colors ?

Classic and timeless, and I love your ceiling! Personally, I wouldn't want a rug in my kitchen because of the problem with keeping it clean.

What an inspiration!! Rug? You want to start covering up that beautiful kitchen?? !?

Re pics of process - ooh yuck! Reminds me of a fixer upper my hubby and I did about 10 years ago. We almost got divorced over it lol!

Suzme, don't worry about the floors - just enjoy them, diets and all (and there will be a few). The hardwood in our kitchen is 18 years old and still looks great - has never been refinished.

That was dints, not diets! Although, there might be a few diets too!

almost got a divorce over it....sounds familiar...lol...must be a normal thing when doing a renovation of this size!! Glad you guys made it !

hahaha.....we will never go thru this again!!!...the thing is when the house was bought....we didn't plan on doing all this.....but then realized it would be worth it to raise up the floors. ( we got so much extra room downstairs), but this opened up an entire string of new projects.......
    ....basically we bought the location....

Yep, rehabbing a house is stressful under the best of circumstances. I have done one gut job with everything new except the exterior and the staircase and I won't ever do another one to that degree. Now, we're trying to focus on upgrades and minor layout changes rather than the major projects.

I have a business partner so we can argue and get mad and swear that we will never work with the other person again...and then go home. Working on your own home with your spouse means you can't leave the project behind and go home and forget it...you are home and your spouse and you will never agree to forget it at the same time.

My hubby and I looked at dozens of houses for sale before we finally found one we both liked. He has bought property and I have bought property but we've only ever bought one house together and we'll probably be there for quite a while as finding another one we both like, at a good price, is probably a pipe dream. I thought I had one recently, but he thought the lot was too big and the house would be too big if we finished out the attic space. I thought the lot was just about right and the attic space was a future plus but the main floor has all the room we need. I thought the price was reasonable, he wanted a smaller and cheaper house...I want room to spread out and do projects, he wants a charming room with a good reading light and a comfy chair....so I guess we'll be staying in the current house for another 21 years....
