It’s Amazing How Much Difference a Frame Makes

Two recent artworks back from the framer. The first is a 16 x 20” acrylic painting of my SIL’s childhood dog. DD procured pictures from his mother as a reference and I liked the puppy look best. I was lucky that Hobby Lobby (the only local place now that frames) had a nicer wood frame in two different gold finishes that are similar to the dog’s fur. The name on the collar is Timber, and I gave this to SIL for his birthday.

Picture two is a 10 x 12” watercolor (ink and wash) that I painted for our league’s annual fundraising golf tournament, luncheon and silent auction. We help support a local agency that provides services such as counseling, wigs, and rides to doctor’s appointments, as well as financial assistance, to women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I hope someone among a group of women golfers will like this, and framed it as neutrally as possible.

I was happy with both of these when the actual painting was finished, but they look so much more convincing somehow now that they are framed!

Any new arts and crafts out there to share? I love seeing the fruits of our creative labors— if only to prove we’re not (or maybe to prove I’m not 🙄) all clothes and decor, lol.

Very sweet paintings, k!

This is a cyanotype that I made with the usual blue, then ”toned” in a bath of green tea. The result is a sort of purply brown. The photo was taken by DH of a hydrangea from our yard.

And a couple of the usual blues.

Love the blues, and am really taken with the hydrangea Sue. It looks like a vintage photo, very cool!

Kswl, I love your artwork. The dog is so sweet and snuggly. Your SIL is very lucky. You've also done a great job on the golfer. I love the movement in it.

SueB, I'm a big fan of your work too. It's subtle and sophisticated. I love that the focus stays on the plants.

I'm still in CT on the coast so my crafting (I don't dare call it artwork,) once again involves clam shells and oyster shells. I'm not sure what I'll do with them, wondering if there is any sort of market for this type of thing in Longboat Key. (I've mostly moved away from the napkin decoupage as it's been done to death and is now usually blinged out to the point of being tacky.)

The butterfly and the angel are about five inches across, made from whole Quahog shells. It's very unusual to find them still hinged together. (the only reason I have them is because I go clamming and can press the shells flat and then reinforce the hinge with glue.) It's likely the only thing that sets these apart from the way oversaturated shell art market. There will also be a pearl next to the starfish.

For display purposes, the starfish shell would probably sit on three pearls while the other two would be displayed vertically on small lucite hinged plate holders.
