Exterior door design help! Removing transom, adding lighting?

We could really use help with this entry door redesign. This is our current entry door- we're replacing the entire thing, including the paneling and molding going all the way up around the large window to almost the roof (it's a bit rotted). We have two main problems to solve:

1. We have no privacy inside our home at night due to all the windows, so are removing the transom and replacing the sidelights with decorative glass.

2. We also have absolutely no lighting on the entry door itself, making entering at night difficult. We are also replacing the tiny side lighting on either side of the door, however the door is recessed about 3 feet and I don't think they'd throw enough light to the recessed door even if replaced.

Since we're likely replacing the glass transom with solid paneling we thought we might be able to add a light above the door, but I'm having trouble finding something that looks ok. I don't want a recessed light all the way up on the 2nd floor because I've heard it's a nightmare to change and also the light likely wouldn't make a difference from that distance. My thought is to perhaps add a large number plaque and then have a bar light above that, so the light doesn't look so out of place? I tried to play around a bit on AI, but had trouble getting it to edit too much, what I have created is just a GENERAL idea, though proporitons are off. Does something like this look ok? Or does anyone have any other ideas? Please help!!

The first image is the current house.

The second image is after a bit of playing with AI. The light fixtures on the side seem large but I couldn't get it to size down without changing everything. The wood within the sidelights will be black to match the door but I couldn't change it, and the windows in the sidelights will be decorative for privacy. Would it look better if the panel above the door (where the glass transom used to be) were black so the light blended more with the design? A neighbor has a black solid panel with house numbers above their black door and black sidelights and it looks nice. Or does this current idea concept look okay-ish? Any help is appreciated!!

If your budget allowed, I’d be visually breaking up the entrance/ overpowering window, in order to create a more welcoming facade. Lighting issue would be resolved as well.

If interested, look into its possibility/ask if the two story pillars could be removed without damaging the brick. I think your home would be transformed!

Hi - yes I'd love an entrance like! Unfortunately that but it would require a much bigger renovation. The door and window are recessed into an alcovoe (you can see better from this angle)

so we'd have to create a ceiling/roof structure in between the window and door, which I'd imagine is costly. We're trying to avoid reconstructing the entire entrance, and just doing the door and wood paneling surround (which is already waaay more expensive than we had hoped).

BTW I don't know why my account says Pro. Somehow my old one got locked so I just created this one but must have made a mistake. I'm clearly not a pro lol

I like your option. I think it's a good solution and makes your address visible for emergency vehicles. Perhaps you could find the same type of light in white to blend in with the new panel.

What do you mean by "no privacy within our home at night due to all the windows"? Removing the transom isn't going to help much with privacy. I would get a film for the transom and sidelights that create privacy and then get a lighting expert to come assess the lighting situation. Some interior designers do lighting plans. Probably a lot more reasonale financially that what you are proposing

What your house really needs is separation between the front door area and the upper window.

My BIL worked in construction for a long time (owned his own company for many years also). He said that since the whole area is recessed, adding a faux balcony wouldn't be difficult. You could then add wiring in order to use the bottom ceiling area to hang a light fixture.

I don't know why AI kept changing your window - I finally gave up trying to fix it. Also, I wanted to see what it looked like if the sidelights and transom were painted black also to match the window - however, it kept changing things that I didn't want changed = I gave up on that also!

I love this entrance and your improvements in the second image.

I think the black address plaque is nice and is enough black...I like that it's the same width as the door. Everything else looks very nice in white.

I'm not sure the wall lamps are too big, they balance a very large entryway, although they look farther apart than the current fixtures. The lightbar is a nice modern touch with clean lines that echo the window above it.

What about dressing it up with some brass features?
