Countertop matching hardwood floors

We are replacing furniture storage with built in shaker cabinets for our small Cape Cod cottage bedrooms, and have chosen butcher block countertops over stone.
One opinion suggests matching the American Walnut hardwood floors; the other a more contrasting slightly darker natural. Attached is the ChatGPT reflection of our ideas. Any feedback regarding countertop stain would be appraised. Same for the pendant light.
Thanks.

Thank you for such a quick response. Admittedly, the colors represented here are off. The floors seem to be showing to red. Overall, we are looking for advice regarding the need to match. Will it be too much, or serve as a good blend?

Also, which pendant light do you prefer: the black cage or speckled glass?

Does your furniture match the floor? This is furniture, although it is built in. The tops and the floors just need to look good together. Having them the same would be too matchy matchy.

    Black pendant is great.

I'd go with the slight contrast option. Matching walnut on walnut can look like you tried to match and missed, while a lighter top lets the floors be the star. Black cage pendant gets my vote too.

agree that having some difference between the floor and counter will be nice - fwiw we have light floors and a black walnut island counter and I like having the difference

it’s personal but i don’t love the exposed bulb look - creates a lot of glare - are these your only choices? there are so many great fixtures out there - for a bedroom, something softer with a fabric shade might be nice but would a traditional lamp be better?

Might suggest not matching the flooring at all. Perhaps an engineered quartz would work better.

We steered away from the quartz because we thought it looked to “hospitally”(new word).

    definitely second rendering!

    Second also.

Of the two options, the second is the better one.

For a fixture, I would avoid anything with exposed bulbs. They get annoying. There are sooo many nice fixtures out there. Keep looking.

I prefer the second and a bamboo blind will help tie everything together. Suggest a semi flush light and consider its size no matter what style you choose (the ones you show are too small and the amount of light will be minimal). Consider painting the shelving area the same color as the walls.

I’m not understanding the need for a pendant light in that location. That will make it feel more kitchen like. I suggest you coordinate an outlet to the left and right of the window at the backsplash for a small table lamp.

I think I'd like to see more of the room to give an opinion on the lighting. But everything else being equal (which it rarely is), I like lalagirl's option best.

Of the two pendant lights that you show, I like this one the best. It’s a nice choice.

To tell you the truth, though - I, too, am having a hard time wrapping my head around the pendant light idea. I think it does look a bit kitchen-like. I agree that a table lamp there might give you nice light, as well as a nice look. So, it’s another option for you.

If you didn’t have an available outlet, there are battery operated lamps, also.

Also, maybe consider the rev a shelf laundry pull out if you want a full streamlined look:

Thank you for that suggestion as it was an option we considered exploring.

I think @Maureen’s suggestion to paint the back wall of the shelves the same as the regular was is terrific. If you do not want to permanently paint them, use poster board (cut to the right size), painted to match and put it on the back wall.

We are also considering backing it with bead board matching the paint color, or filling the shelf space with bins.

I like the bead board idea!
