I had one of the more meaningful experiences of my teenage life at Dachau. It was the first time as a young teen that I stood on ground that had been...well, you know.

I learned a lot that day. I suspect as an adult it may not have been the same shock that I had as a sort-of clueless kid, but I hope you found it equally as....I don't even know what word to use. Meaningful works as good as I can find right now.

Austria is lovely. I am jealous. Enjoy!!!

DH also has German heritage and he spent several years there while in the Army.

That weiner schnitzel looks delish. We used to have a restaurant near us that served German and Austrian cuisine and I always ordered the weiner schnitzel

Most of my family is descended from the Pennsylvania Settlers, who were Germans.

Dachau remains one of the most chilling things I've ever done. Visiting the site was sobering and heartbreaking.

I'm glad these sites have been preserved, even though the history is horrific, so that we can never forget.

There are some salt mines on the outskirts of town that are interesting to visit.
