awkward room redesign help

I would love some advice, ideas and suggestions to help with this room. It’s an awkward room in a tri-level home. I cannot replace the couch or floors. But I would like to pain the walls, possibly doors and replace the window treatment. I also feel like the wheee the TV is hung could use some help. Any ideas could be very much appreciated. The rest of the house is a light gray but that will be chanced eventually to some other color. Thank you!

What is the main purpose of the space? What kind of feeling would you like the room to have? Does anyone use the recliner? It seems as though it would be a bit difficult to watch the t.v. from there. It looks as though you have a wall register, which would prevent you from placing a console under the t.v. Do you always keep your vacuum in that room?

    Ideas:

Heftier wood-toned shelves and storage unit (with an open-back section to accommodate the wall vent), TV wall (including vent cover) painted charcoal to hide cords, foundation boxing painted to match walls (or a bit darker, as ChatGPT did here). Roman shades at the windows for some pattern. Could consider a rug and/or ottoman(s) if desired. I really don't see a better furniture arrangement than the one you already have.

Yellow wall paint would look amazing here especially with the wood. What you have is fine so far, not too cluttered. Just add a rug and hide the TV cords. Trying to make this place stylish ONLY, would defeat the purpose it's used for: messy teens ( I have my own)

To make it more stylish : yellow/or blue paint. Wallpaper can make it fun too but I would recommend just paint as it is a small space. & a thick rug With patterns can look well. Coordinate with the pillows

For more function: use shelving on the bottom under the TV. If possible swivel or center the TV

This shade of yellow is gorgeous in the space and very cheerful, and happy. Great for teens who are going through 1000 of emotions. Very calming.

Even if you do nothing else, just removing the clutter into boxes, hiding the cords and adding a rug ( jute or patterned in blue ) will create a warm cozy space.

Blue will also go well here.

I really like simplynatural's mockup with the wood shelves and blue-gray paint.

What a great space for teens to hang out in, and you can get a lot done with just paint, window treatments and the TV wall.

Paint: your sectional and the floor are both warm, so I'd skip another cool gray and go with a warm white or soft greige (Benjamin Moore White Dove or Sherwin-Williams Accessible Beige are both safe here). Paint the walls, the chair rail and the trim all the same color, just in different sheens, so the rail stops cutting the room in half. I'd leave the wood doors alone for now; once the gray is gone they'll read as a warm feature instead of a clash, and you can always paint them later.

TV: it's hung high and off to one side, so the seating doesn't feel aimed at anything. If you can move it, center it on the sectional with the middle of the screen around 42 inches off the floor, and put a low console or floating shelf under it for the game consoles (if a vent is in the way, a leggy console still lets the air through).

Windows: keep the bamboo shades and add simple curtain panels in the same color family as the walls, rod hung just below the ceiling and extending past the frame. In a tri-level room that one move makes the ceiling feel taller.

Finish with a big rug (front legs of the sectional on it), a floor lamp for eye-level light, and a basket or two for controllers and blankets. Teens will actually use it. Have fun with it!

Another color to consider is SWJersey Cream. It is a warm pale yellow with a Tuscan faded yellow feel.
